SUBJECT MATHEMATICS

General Instructions:
1) Maths holiday homework is divided into 2 parts : Part A & Part B
2) Part A consists of Art integrated project work based on Tesellations.
3) Part B consists of an assignment to be done in weekly assignment register.

PART-A

ART INTEGRATED PROJECT: TESELLATIONS

Tesellation is a repeated pattern of closed shapes that cover a surface with no gaps and
no overlaps.Geometrical shapes that can tessellate are square , equilateral triangle and
a regular hexagon.Using the above shapes (considering the side of each polygon to be
5cm or 6cm) , create a tessellating Shape (refer to the ppt shared in your class
whatsapp group).
1) Choose a) A T-shirt (white / pastel shade)
OR
b) Table cloth (50cm × 50cm)
2) Trace the tessellated design on the T-shirt or Table cloth.
3) Using fevicryl paints and different colour combinations , paint the tessellated
design.
4) Give a brief write up describing your work in Mathematics practical file and
also the pattern drawn.
5) Click a picture of yours wearing the T-shirt designed by you or holding the
table cloth in your hands and paste it in your practical file.

PART-B
(Do this assignment in your weekly assignment register-3.)

1. Find the quadratic polynomial whose zeroes are 2 + √3 and 2 – √3.

2. Find a quadratic polynomial whose sum and product of zeroes are √2 and 3
respectively.

3. If  and are the zeroes of the polynomial 2x2 +5(x–2), then find the product of 
and .
4. Find the zeroes of the following polynomials by factorisation method and verify the
relations between the zeroes and the coefficients of the polynomials:

(i) 4x2 –3x–1

(ii) 3x2 +4x–4

(iii) 5t2 +12t+7

(iv) t3 –2t2 –15t

5. If one zero of the quadratic polynomial x2 + 3x + k is 2, then find the value of k

6. If the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial x2 + (a + 1) x + b are 2 and –3, then find
the value of a and b.
7. If and are the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial f(x) = 6x2 + x – 2, then find the
value of

(i) (ii)2 2 (iii)4 4 (iv)2 2

8. Solve the following system of linear equations graphically: 3x y 11 0; x y 1

0 . Shade the region bounded by these lines and the line x=0. Find the points
where these lines cut the y-axis.
9. Find the value of k, so that the following system of equations has no solution:

3x – y – 5 = 0; 6x – 2y – k = 0.

10. Find the value of k, so that the following system of equations has a unique
solution:

kx3y(k3); 12xkyk.

11. Find the value of a and b for which each of the following systems of linear
equations has an infinite number of solutions:

(a1) x 3y 2; 6x (12b) y6.

12. Solve for x and y using substitution or elimination method:

(i) 2x+y=7; 4x–3y+1=0.

(ii) 2x–3y=13; 7x–2y=20.
(iii) 3x–5y–19=0; –7x+3y+1=0.
(iv) 2x–3y+8=0; x–4y+7=0.
(v) 37x + 43y = 123; 43x + 37y = 117.

13. The sum of a two-digit number and the number obtained by reversing the digits
is 99. If the digits differ by 3, find the number.

14. Ten years hence, a man’s age will be twice the age of his son. Ten years ago, man
was four times as old as his son. Find their present ages.

number of days one has taken food in the mess. When a student A takes food for 20
days she has to pay Rs 1000 as hostel charges whereas a student B, who takes food for
26 days, pays Rs 1180 as hostel charges. Find the fixed charges and the cost of food
per day.
