OIL RIG DESIGN COMPETITION

Competition Brief explanation

Oil Rig Design Competition is one of the competition series of OCEANO 2022. This event is a
competition for undergraduate students to develop their ideas in designing a specific Oil Rig Plat-
form. Participants will be challenged to provide innovation in designing the Oil Rig Platform and
solving the problems that have been given. The competition is divided into two stages. The first
stage is the preliminary stage, Participants are required to make a project explanation that
includes all the specifications of their oil rig design. Then, after the participants pass the prelimi-
nary stage there will be a final stage. In the final stage, Participants are required to present their
oil rig platform in front of the judges, which will also include a Q&A session based on the partici-
pants' presentations. Participants are also required to make a creative video of the oil rig they
made which will later be posted on the official OCEANO 2022 Instagram and will be voted. The
video with the most votes will be chosen as the favorite winner.

Case Overview
The oil and gas industry has rebounded strongly throughout 2021, with oil prices reaching
their highest levels in six years. Therefore, OCEANO 2022 demands you to act as a contractor to
design a profitable oil rig with Technologically Advanced and Sustainable to maximize these
conditions which suit the gas field proposed by the committee.

Kaombo Ultra-Deep Offshore Project involved the development of six of the 12 fields discov-
ered at block 32, around 260km offshore Luanda in Angola, Africa with water depth ranges from
1400m to 1950m, while the estimated reserves are approximately 650 million barrels. Because
this project has some characteristics, the water depth which reaches up to 1950 meters makes it
have extreme temperatures and pressure conditions at such depths require the use of technolo-
gy that is both reliable and cost effective.

 General Rules
1. The OCEANO 2022 Oil Rig Design Competition is open to all active under-
graduate students; students who are subject to academic sanctions are not
allowed to participate in this competition.

2. Each university is allowed to register with any number of teams in the Prelimi-
nary and Final stage

3. Each team consists of 4 or 5 people based on the registration form.

4. Each member cannot be registered in more than one team.

5. Team members are allowed from different majors but must be from the same
university. Team members could not be replaced after the registration form is
submitted.

6. Each team must submit their Project Explanation as a Preliminary Stage. Only
ten (10) teams with the best Project Explanation will be selected at The Final
Stages and will be announced via OCEANO 2022 official email and Insta-
gram.

7. Each team must send at least one of the members to represent their team to
attend a technical meeting on the day that will be announced by official
email of OCEANO 2022.

8. Main event competition (Final Stage) will be held virtually through the Online
ZOOM Platform.

9. Any kind of violation of rules may lead to points deduction and disqualifica-
tion.

10. The Judges’ decisions are absolute.

11. The result of the competition will be announced at Golden Night OCEANO
2022.

12. All rules and regulations are able to change depending on the condition. Any
kind of change will be informed to all participants via e-mail or at the techni-

Competition Format

The OCEANO 2022 Oil Rig Design Competition will be divided into two stages.
Here is the step of competition format:
1. Project Explanation should be sent to oceanoordc@gmail.com with file
name format:

2. After sending The Project Explanation, participants should immediately give

confirmation to the contact person.

3. Finalists of Oil Rig Design OCEANO 2022 will be announced on August 13th,
2022 via OCEANO 2022 official email.

4. Participants must present their presentation and video creativity at the final
stage presentation session, and are required to answer judges' questions at
Q&A session.

5. The results will be announced at Golden Night OCEANO 2022.

Project Explanation Guideline

1. Project Explanation must be written in English.

2. Content of The Project Explanation must consist of the name and type of plat-
form concept of design (related to the topic) and rig details such as:

3. Project Explanation must not consist of any kind of representative university

name and logo (Almamater/Organization/Student Chapter attributes).

4. The Project Explanation must be submitted by maximum July 8th, 2022 at 23.59

Presentation Guideline
1. The Presentation Session will be conducted via an online platform.

2. The Presentation and Q&A Session will be conducted in English.

3. The Presentation file must be submitted by maximum October 8st,

2022 at 23.59 WIB (GMT+7) with file name format :

4. Presentation may not consist of any kind of representative univer-

sity name and logo (Almamater/Organization/Student Chapter
attributes).

5. The Presentation will be presented using a share screen feature

by the participant.

6. The presentation stage for each team will consist of 10 minutes of

presentation and 20 minutes of question and answer, each team
is given 2 minutes to prepare for their presentation as well as their
model.

7. The content of the presentation must be appropriated with The

Project Explanation that has already been submitted.

8. The Video Creativity must be presented and included in a 10 min-

utes presentation.

9. During the presentation, the whole team or the representation of

the team, can present / be the speaker of the presentation test.

Video Creativity Guideline

Participants are required to make a video overview of their platform, the video will
determine the favorite winner.

1. Participants are required to make a creative video about their oil platform with
minimum duration of 60 seconds and maximum duration of 180 seconds with
.mp4 format with maximum file size 650 mb.

2. Video may not consist of any kind of representative university name and logo
(Almamater/Organization/Student Chapter attributes).

3. The video should be in vertical/horizontal with an aspect ratio 1080 x 1920p /

Full HD and should have a minimum frame rate 30 fps.

4. The 80% time of video overview must consist general information of the platform,
system, and innovation, such as :

5. The video should be sent through google drive link that has been given by Liaison

Favorite Winner
Favorite winners will be selected based on the best Video Creativity. Best video is
determined by judges' decisions, voting on OCEANO 2022 official instagram account,
with a voting format that will be given at the technical meeting.

Tournament Officials
1. Judges
There will be 3 judges, each of them assessing a different aspect. Assessments will depend
on settled rules and criteria

2. Moderator
The moderator will guide the entire competition and have a right to do interruption during
the competition. Moderator will be taken from the committee.

3. Timekeeper
The timekeeper will keep the accuracy and fair of time during the competition and notify
the remaining time for each session.

4. Operator
The operator will be responsible to provide the media of presentation that used during the
competition

Registration
1. Registration is open through OCEANO 2022 registration link

2. The participants are required to post twibbon on each member Instagram account accord-
ing to the template that can be downloaded on bit.ly/TwibbonTemplateORDC2022.
Registration fee for Preliminary Stages (Project Explanation Submission) Oil Rig Design Com-
petition is IDR 100.000/team (USD 10).

3. Payment has to be paid in FULL AMOUNT.

4. Participants are required to keep the payment receipt and submit it during the registration
process.

5. Best Ten (10) Project Explanations that are selected into Final Stage are responsible to confirm
their attendance and must pay the fee in the amount of IDR 100.000/person (USD 10).
