About The Program

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) intended to build human resources and knowledge capacity by arranging
training programs thorough open access science and technology infrastructure across the country under the banner of ‘Synergistic
Training Program Utilizing the Scientific & Technological Infrastructure (STUTI)’. Each training session will be for seven (7) days
and the participants from outside the host institute will be accommodated. All the training expenditures (travel by train, food and
accommodation, training materials) will be borne by Project Management Unit NIT Agartala (PMU-NITA). The present proposed
program will be organized by the Department of Mathematics, NIT Agartala. Participants will go through hands-on training
followed by the practical implementation of the proposed topics of 7 days training program on “Fundamentals of Computational
Mathematics”. The training program will be arranged from 20th – 26th June, 2022.

Eligibility Criteria
Person of Indian origin with minimum qualification of Post Graduate (Science) or B. Tech (Technology), Professors/Scientist/Post-Doc
Fellows/PhD. Fellows/Industry who are actively involved in Research and Development (R&D) can apply.

About the Mathematics Department

The Mathematics Department was started along with NIT Agartala in 2006, formerly Tripura Engineering College, and a revered Institute since
inception and completed its glorious fifty years, established in 1965. Mathematics Department is continuously motivated towar ds excellence in
research and teaching and has accomplished in this venture to a large extent. Budding progressively, at the moment the Department teaches
Mathematics to under graduate and post graduate students. From the academic year 2019-20, the Department offers BS-MS (Mathematics and
Computing) and M.Sc. (Mathematics and Computing) courses together with Ph.D. program. From 2021-22 the department is starting a new
course BTMT in Computational Mathematics. The Department has highly qualified faculty members consisting of one Professor, fo ur Associate
Professors, nine Assistant Professors, one Teaching Assistant and one Lab Assistant. In their pursuit of research the faculty members are doing
an extensive study in vast and diverse fields. The Department has received DST FIST grant of amount Rs. 49 lakhs. The Department received
various projects from different funding agencies like SERB, BRNS, UGC, CSIR, MNRE etc.
About National Institute of Technology Agartala

National Institute of Technology Agartala, erstwhile Tripura Engineering College (established in 1965), the 20th member of the NIT
fraternity, was established in 2006 to impart quality technical education into various level of higher learning. It is a cent rally funded
technical institution with Deemed to be University status and is a National Centre of Excellence. At present the institute has 13
departments covering all the major engineering, science and humanities disciplines offering B. Tech, BS-MS, BT-MT, M-Tech, MCA, M.
Sc, MBA and PhD programs in various fields of specialization. The mission of the Institute is “To help to improve the economic
development of the country particularly the North-East states and also the public systems, through pursuit of excellence in technical
education, research, consultancy and training”.

The one week training program on “Fundamentals of Computational Mathematics” will be organized by the Department of Mathematics, NIT Agartala
under the banner of ‘Synergistic Training Program Utilizing the Scientific & Technological Infrastructure (STUTI)’ project of Department of Science
and Technology (DST), Govt. of India. The motivation of the training program is to impart knowledge on some sophisticated
computational methods in common interests of all branches of science and technology through hands-on training sessions for better
understanding of such methods.
Tentative topics to be covered within this module are as follows:

Programming Basic introduction to the programming languages viz. C/ C++, Python, MATLAB that can be implemented in
Languages writing programs/coding in the field of ANN, Deep Learning and Machine Learning etc.

Introduction, Biological Neuron, Artificial Neuron, Pattern Classification, McCULLOCH-PITTS Neural Model,
Artificial Neural Perceptron, XOR problem, Single Layer Feed Forward ANNs, Multilayer Feed Forward ANN, Activation
Network Function, Supervised Learning, Unsupervised Learning, Clustering Using ANN, HEBBNETs, ADALINE,
MADALINE, Kohonen’s Seif-Organizing Map(SOM), Back Propagation, Applications.
Historical Context and Motivation for Deep Learning, Basic Supervised Classification Task, Optimizing Logistic
Deep learning Classifier Using Gradient Descent, Stochastic Gradient Descent, Momentum and Adaptive Sub Gradient Method,
Back propagation, Vanishing Gradient Problem.
Machine learning Introduction to Machine Learning, Supervised Learning, Regression and Classification, Linear Regression,
Using Python and Logistic Regression, Classification Algorithms, Minimum Distance Classifier, Nearest Neighbour, Baye’s
