Last October, I went to Vietnam for the first time to visit my penfriend Mai and her family. Mai and I
started emailing each other three years ago, thanks to my teacher, Mr. Brown. He set up a link with a
Vietnamese school because we were learning about Vietnam in our classes that term. Mr. Brown felt that we
would find out more about the country if we had contact with Vietnamese people and he was right.
In our first few weeks of exchanging emails, Mai told me lots of interesting things about Vietnam.
Then, she described the city where she was living and what she did at school each week. We really enjoyed
learning Vietnamese and when other students at our school heard how much fun we had, they asked to join the
class.
When our headteacher, Mrs. Smith realized that Vietnamese became more and more popular in her
school, she suggested developing a full exchanging program with the school in Vietnam. That’s how I finally
got the chance to go to Vietnam and meet Mai.

training. In 1985, she and Christa McAuliffe were chosen from 11,000 applicants to become part of the
teacher-in-space program. They trained together for the mission. But then, tragedy happened. On January

VI. Read the text below and decide whether the statements are TRUE or FALSE. (1.5 pts)
GETTING TO SLEEP
Sleep is very important - in fact, it’s just as important for your body as eating and exercising. If you don’t get
enough sleep, then you won’t be able to enjoy yourself. Playing with friends, going swimming or even
watching videos will not be much fun if you’re tired.
People of all ages need sleep, but different people need different amounts. Babies sleep about twice as long as
they stay awake. Teenagers need about eight or ten hours a night and older people need less - six or seven
hours. But one person may need more than another even if they are both the same age.
Six out of ten children say they are tired during the day, which means they are not getting enough sleep. So
how can you get to sleep? A good idea is to write down what you are thinking about before you go to bed.
Then, make sure your bedroom is as dark as possible and it isn’t too hot or too cold. You can also try counting
from 1 to 100 with your eyes closed. Don’t drink cola before going to bed and don’t do any sport in the
evening. Reading an exciting book or watching an adventure film isn’t a good idea either!

Put a tick () in the appropriate box provided. True False

1. Sleep isn’t so important for your body as eating or exercising. ________ ________
2. Babies spend more time sleeping than being awake. ________ ________
3. Not all adults need the same amount of sleep. ________ ________
