After you have finished listening, record down any Text to Self, Text to Text, and Text to
World connections you may have made in your Literature Response book. Try to make at
least two connections from each group. You may need to listen to the book more than once
to find more connections.

Success Criteria:
- I can understand that each digit in a number is an important place holder.
- I can name and identify each of the places in a number.
- I can write, record and say numbers to the tens of thousands and beyond.
- I can write and record numbers in expanded notation form.
Place Value
Expanded form or expanded notation is a way of writing numbers to see the math value of individual digits. When
numbers are separated into individual place values they can also form a mathematical expression.
In your books, practise expanded notation by completing the ‘Roll and Expand’ activity.
Draw up a table in your book like the one below or print off the sheet by clicking on this link:

Roll a dice five times to get your 5 digit number. Write your number in the ‘roll’ section of your table. Next show how your
number can be partitioned according to place value in the ‘Expand’ column.
Place Value
Use your knowledge of Place Value to complete the following task.
Print off the Place Value Practice to 100,000 by clicking the link below or complete it in your book.
