The Republic of the Marshall Islands - Requirements for MODU certification
Offshore Instalation Manager (OIM)

Experience and Four (4) calendar years of service on MODUs as roustabout,


school derrickman, driller, barge engineer, toolpusher, rig
superintendent or equal, at least two (2) years of which have
been in a supervisory capacity such as driller, barge engineer,
tool pusher or rig superintendent.

or

One (1) year of service as a certificated Barge Supervisor.

or

Hold a degree as Bachelor of Science from a recognized school


of technology and have two (2) years of service on drill units,
one (1) year of which was in a supervisory capacity.

Additional Candidates for Offshore Installation Manager certificates must

2.11.6 and must also complete a stability course for Offshore
Installation Manager, a blowout prevention and well control
training program for the driller or toolpusher position and a
survival suit and survival craft training course.

Basic Training
Proficiency in Survival Craft and rescue boat other than fast
rescue boat
Advanced Fire Fighting
Medical Care Certificate or Medical First Aid Certificate
Security Awareness (STCW VI/6-1) or Ship Security Officer
(STCW VI/5) – NEW REGULATIONS!
Sea service from seamans book or Company letter proving sea
service
Stability and ballast control certificate
Blowout prevention and well control (not needed if assigned to a
non-drilling unit. Such will be noted as a limitation on the
certificate.)
Ballast Control Operator (BCO)

Experience and One (1) calendar year of service on MODUs which includes at
school least 30 days of service as a trainee under the supervision of a
Ballast Control Operator

or

Hold a degree as Bachelor of Science from a recognized school


of technology and have at least 30 days of service as a trainee
under the supervision of a Ballast Control Operator.

Additional Candidates for Ballast Control Operator certificates must

Experience and Two (2) calendar year of service on MODUs as roustabout,


school derrickman, driller, barge engineer, toolpusher, rig
superintendent or equivalent
or

Hold a degree as Bachelor of Science from a recognized school


of technology and have at least 12 months of actual service on
MODUs as roustabout or in another capacity listed above.

Additional Candidates for Barge Supervisor certificates must complete the


Requirements fire-fighting training requirement as per sub-item 2.11.6 and
must also complete a stability course for Barge Supervisor and
a survival suit and survival craft training course.

Maintenance Supervisor (MSUP)

Experience and Four (4) calendar year of service on MODUs as roustabout or in


school a capacity above, at least two (2) years of which have been as a
mechanic, electrician, motorman, subsea engineer or
equivalent;
or

Two (2) years of service as a certificated Assistant Maintenance

Book (SIRB) and special qualification

Application completed and signed by applicant


One colour photo (4,5 x 4,5 cm)
Proof of identification (coppy od passport). Certified translation provided of
identity document is not in English
Basic training STCW
Medical Fitness Certificate not older than 6 months duly signed and
stamped by doctor on special Marshall Island form
Letter of commitment for assignment to a Marshall Islands vessel

N.B.
If the applicant does not have STCW Basic Training, SIRB will be issue limited
for use on Mobile Offshore Drill Units Only.
All applicant for certification of a Special Qualification must hold a Marshall
Islands Seafarer's Identification and Record Book or apply at the same time
for this book
Applicant for Special Qualification holding and / or renewing a Marshall Islands
Seafarer's Identification and Record Book must submit a copy of Page 2 of
that book.
