You can see from the varied descriptions above that there is no
set manifestation regarding receiving the Baptism of Fire. You
may feel fire or you may not.

Apart from Matthew 3:11 and Luke 3:16 (which are identical
verses), what does the Bible say about the Baptism of Fire?
Those who are Baptised with Fire are purged, refined, the
consequences of sin in their life is dealt with, the pollution that
sin leaves in our lives is removed and the demonic is removed.
It is a life changing experience.

There are also a few difficulties with some verses in the Bible.
In Acts 1:5, Jesus says the disciples would be baptised with
Holy Spirit, but does not mention ‘fire’. The fact that ‘fire’
came when they were in the upper room leads me to think
that as far as Jesus was concerned ‘fire’ was included when
receiving ‘Holy Spirit’. The same applies to similar verses in
Acts 10 and 11 when Cornelius and his household are baptised.

The first person I have traced who had that revelation was
John Wesley. He did not call it the Baptism of Fire, and I am
not sure if he connected the two; he called it Sanctification
or Christian Perfection. He yearned for the blessing of
Sanctification.

On Christmas Day 1738, Wesley set out the rules for these
Classes.

light and understanding to the simple.’”13

it to the revival that launched the Church in Jerusalem. He

He also wrote,
“Yet, sin remains in him; yea, the seed of all sin, till
he is sanctified throughout”20

though Wesley tried to clarify that he did not mean that you
needed Sanctification to get into heaven; this may have been
a stumbling block for his ministers. The people were happy
with the teaching of Justification by faith; they did not wish to
labour after anything else.

Sanctification, yet doubts flooded their minds that they had not
actually received what they had been searching for or that they
had lost it. It just shows that when we have an extraordinary
encounter the enemy may try to snatch away the blessing. We
must always be watchful and stand firm. A similar situation
is often experienced by people who have received a healing -
unless one stands on it the enemy can put doubts in one’s mind
and you can lose it.

James Caughey came over from America in 1841 and had very
successful meetings with many Salvations and many received
Sanctification, including William Booth (founder of the
Salvation Army). He was followed by Phoebe Palmer in 1859
who stayed in the United Kingdom for several years. William
and Catherine Booth really took over the mantle of Holiness
teaching until the end of the century. A few people carried the
teaching on through the first half of the twentieth century, but
today there is hardly any sign in the United Kingdom of the
Holiness Movement.

Bob Jones was one of the most accurate prophets in the world,
and he had some truly staggering words, some of which were
to do with the formation and growth of the International
House of Prayer in Kansas City. In the 1970’s he died and
went to heaven, but God told him to go back to prepare for the
billion soul Revival He was planning, which he would see the
beginning of before he died.

Up until six years ago I had only heard the subject spoken
of once or twice in many years. Now suddenly a number of
people are giving talks on the subject; it really seems to be a
subject on God’s Heart. This is not surprising, as the Baptism
of Fire is likely to be a precursor to Revival and Revival in the
United Kingdom is expected soon.

I came back from Israel and for days and days and
days afterwards I just continued, I was absolutely full
of the love and the purity and the holiness of God.
I had no fear; I was given God’s love for people
at a different level and a passion for His Presence
again was at a different level. He began to heal me.
The Spirit of Fire inside of me was just cleansing
me, purging and healing me. I came out of a lot of
brokenness; a lot of abuse and I was different.”

I should point out that some of you reading this will say that
you have already experienced Sanctification/Baptism of Fire.
I believe some people experienced this when they were saved
or when they received the Baptism of Holy Spirit, but did not
recognise this at the time.
