determine the sequence of the life cycle.
Students will be able to curate information from
digital resources.
What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea? The learning goal is for the students to use
resources provided to understand and determine the order of life cycle for a butterfly.
Selected Instructional Software Tool: Anchor

Description of Software: Anchor is a platform that has created an effortless way to make a podcast.
There is built-in uploading, recording, and editing tools, so you can easily create and publish
episodes. Anchor has many more notable features; this app has in-depth analytics, a website for
your podcast, and it is a free podcasting platform. Anchor can be used on a phone or computer. I
highly suggest checking out this platform to record high-quality podcasts, host unlimited episodes,
and distribute wherever needed.

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☐ X Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
I will be using the Anchor tool to introduce the butterfly life cycle to the students. This will give them
an overview of the knowledge coming their way, but this will also be an example for students to
follow to create their own podcasts. Once the students move past the introductory podcast, I will
design daily podcasts that give the students more information about a butterfly’s life cycle. Students
will be able to utilize the technology to recall information, practice their knowledge, and create
podcasts in response to the new information. The students will have access to the podcasts in and
out of the classroom. The teacher will give summaries of the podcasts and ask questions to make
sure the students are keeping up with the information given. Feedback will be provided at the end of
each podcast with a question/answer environment. This lesson will be concluded with a summary of
what the students have learned and how they felt about the lesson. The students will be able to
express their highs and lows during the lesson.
Managing student learning: The tool used for this lesson will be mostly passive, but there will be a
shift from passive to active learning during co-use/co-engagement and Ask 3 then Me. These simple
add-ons will allow students to merge their learning with peers to engage in deep thought.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:
Multiple means of representation are strongly used throughout this lesson. This is another way to
explain concepts and provide information. This activity is meant to support ALL students; this lesson
supports and enhances the learning experience for students in the classroom by increasing listening
skills, cutting down on screen time, and the corresponding transcripts allow for students to track and
confirm their success.
Reflection: After designing this lesson idea, I feel the activities I created will impact students in many
ways. Students will be able to practice their listening comprehension skills, engage with others,
suited for passive learners, etc. Students will be able to participate in group discussions and will have
the opportunity to go through questions with the teacher. I look forward to implementing the audio
files, because it is a new way for them to learn and for me to teach.
