Multimedia Audio or Video Lesson Idea
Multimedia Audio or Video Lesson Idea
What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea? I can use anchor to record a podcast. I can
research the stars and planets to gather information for my podcast.
Description of Software: Anchor is a podcast recording tool that can be accessed on any phone,
computer, or tablet. Anchor allows students to record and post a podcast with ease.
How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:
☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.
☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.
☒ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation:
The day before our lesson plan I will send students home with homework asking them to listen to my
Anchor recorded podcast. My Anchor will introduce them to the topic with a few fun facts about the
planets and stars in our solar system. Then, I will ask them to ask someone at home what they know
about planets and stars. This will be done in preparation for the next days lesson. Upon starting the
lesson I will check and see that every student listened to the podcast at home and followed the
instructions. We will begin by having some open discussion about what their guardians at home told
them about the solar system. Students will then be instructed to chose two planets and two stars to
compare in their Anchor podcast. Once students have chosen two planets and two stars they will
gather their laptops and begin researching some basic information about the planets and stars.
Students will need 2-3 facts about each planet and star they chose. Once students have written or
typed up some basic ideas they will then write a small script for their podcast. This can be done in
bullet points or paragraph form. Upon completion of this students will present their scripts to me so
that I can look over their ideas and send them to make the podcast. Students will begin on Anchor and
record themselves reading off their script. Podcasts should be 1 to 2 minutes in length. When students
are done recording they will post their podcast onto their Anchor account. To conclude this lesson
students will get in small groups and listen to each others podcasts. Feedback will be given via a
graded rubric created by me. I will listen to each podcast and return the completed rubric to each
student.
Managing student learning:
Students will make a script and submit it to me then begin creating their podcast to allow the shift
from passive to active learning. The lesson allows for clear passive learning and then moves into
active learning with the creation of their podcast as well as small group time. The small group time
facilitates a co-engagement scope within the classroom.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:
Anchor is an easy to use tool that can be accessed by all students on any device. The tool itself is easy
to use and can be facilitated with teacher guidance. The lesson planned falls under the UDL principle
of Multiple Means of Engagement. Students will chose their planets and stars, write a script, and then
go online to record their podcast. It also falls under Multiple Means of Action and Expression.
Students have choice and can use their creativity to create a podcast that is special to them. The
addition of choice, freedom, and creativity enhances the learning experience for each student in the
classroom.
Reflection: I think the use of podcasts in the classroom is a great tool to implement. Students can
listen and be more engaged with just audio. Podcasts are also very user friendly and accessible with
provided transcripts and multi-device use. I can’t wait to utilize this tool because podcasts are fun and
I think students will really enjoy them. I personally listen to podcasts all the time as a future teacher
with ADHD. When only needing to be focused on audio we can absorb more of the information
without becoming overwhelmed.
