RS485 connection

Introduction:

The way to connect the unit to the computer via serial connection is done with RS485 to USB converter.
Before starting it is required to install the serial com port driver.

In most computers, the driver installed automatically when internet is available after you stick the
converter to the computer. In some cases, it is required to install the deriver manually. This manual
comes to explain how to integrate the RS485 converter to your computer.

1. Please make sure you have internet connection.


2. Connect the RS485 to USB converter to your computer
3. Navigate to Control Panel → Device Manager
4. If the driver of the converter is already installed, you will see it listed as the next available COM
port like in the image below. It means you are all set and can proceed with the connection to the
RS485 device.

Note: in any stage if the device is seen in the device manager under Ports (COM & LPT) it means the
driver is installed.
5. If the driver is listed under other devices with a yellow warning sign, proceed and follow the
steps below

6. Driver installation: click on the following link.


7. Scroll down the page to Download and choose UT-885 Driver

8. The relevant files will be downloaded and opened in rar format. Your operating system might
ask you to confirm the download before it starts. When the files are opened extract them to a
folder in your PC that you will know how to access to.
9. Go back to Device manager and right click on the FTR232R USB PORT under the Other devices
section in order to open the driver installation wizard.

10. Follow the instruction. Choose to install the driver from local files from your computer. Those
are the files that were saved locally on your computer in step #8.

11. Double click on the entire file

12. Install the driver.


13. After the completion of the driver installation the device (USB COM PORT) should be listed
under the Ports (COM&LPT).
