TENDENCY & MEASURES OF VARIATION

Name: Escareal,Ignacio III B. BSE-2FIL

Date of Submission: june 26
Answer the following and upload a clean and orderly output as
attachment. (50 points)

Experiential Learning:
From the corrected frequency distribution done in M10-Learning
Task, solve for the
1. Mean, Median and Mode
2. Quartile 1 and 3
3. Decile 5 and 8
4. Population and sample variances and standard deviation.

Copy the corrected Frequency Distribution Table with Title above it; then
complete the data/table needed in the computation of the variance and
standard deviation then interpret every result.

1. Mean, Median and Mode

Σ fXm
Mean: x = n
= 7,052÷ 60 = 117.53

Analysis: The mean performance of 60 are the scores made on an

intelligence test by a group of children who participated in the
experiment is 117.45. Those students who got scores below 117.45
did not perform well in the said examination while those students
who got scores above 117.45 performed well

.
n 60
Median: 2
= 2 = 30
n
The category containing 2 is 109.5 –118.5, MC
LB = 109.5

2
cfp = 14
fm = 21
c. i. = 9

Median = LB + ¿)c.i.

30−14
= 109.5+ ( 21 )9
16
= 109.5+ ( 21 )9
114
= 109.5+ 21
= 109.5+ 5.43
Median = 114.93

Mode: Modal Class = 110-118

Analysis: The median value is 114.93, which means that 50% or 30

scores are less than 114.93.

LB = 109.5; d1 = 35 - 14 = 21; d2 = 35 - 47 = -12;

c.i. = 9

21
Mode = 109.5+ ( 21+−12 )9
189
= 109.5+ 9
= 109.5+ 21
Mode = 130.5

The mode of the score distribution that consists of 60 students is 3

130.5, because 130.5 occurred several times.
2. Quartile 1 and 3
n 60
Solution: 4 = 4 = 15
LB = 109.5; cfp = 14; fq1 = 21; c.i. = 9

15−14
Q1 = 109.5+ ( 21 )9
1
= 109.5+ ( 21 )9
9
= 109.5+ ( 21 )
= 109.5+ 0.43
Q1 = 109.93
Therefore, 25% of the scores of 60 students who participated
in the test are less than 109.93.

3 n 3(60)
Solution: 4
= = 45
4
LB = 118.5; cfp = 35; fq3 = 12; c.i. = 9
45−35
Q3 = 118.5+ ( 12 )9
10
= 118.5+ ( 12 )9
90
= 118.5+ ( 12 )
= 118.5+ 7.5
Q3 = 126

Therefore, 75% of the scores of 60 students who

participated in the test are less than 126.
4
3. Decile 5 and 8
5n 5(60)
Solution: 10 = = 30
10
LB = 109.5; cfp = 14; fD5 = 21; c.i. = 9

30−14
D5 = 109.5 + ( 21 )9
16
= 109.5 + ( 21 )9
144
= 109.5+ ( 21 )
= 109.5+ 6. 86
D5 = 116.36

Hence, 50% of the scores of 60 students who participated in

the test are less than 116.36.

8n 8(60)
Solution: 10 = = 48
10
LB = 127.5; cfp = 47; fD8 = 5; c.i. = 9

48−47
D8 = 127.5+ ( 5
)9
1
= 127.5+ ( 5 )9
9
= 127.5+ ( 5 )
= 127.5+ 1. 8

Therefore, 70% of the scores of 60 students who

participated in the test are less than 129.3.

D8 = 129.3
