Ms. Cassandra Jensen, Nurse Recruiter

5301 E. Grant Road
Tucson, AZ 85712

Dear Ms. Jensen,

In recruiting new nurses, Tucson Medical Center seeks a nurse ready to step into the multiple
roles that the labor and delivery unit requires. As a birth doula, birth assistant, and labor and
delivery student nurse, I’ve had the opportunity to see, support, and manage birth in various
settings. These experiences have fostered my love for women’s health and have set a foundation
of knowledge that I will draw from as a future labor and delivery nurse. Upon my graduation in
August 2022 and completion of my NCLEX in early autumn of 2022, my goal is to join your
labor and delivery unit as a new nurse.

Before beginning my nursing program at the University of Arizona, I became passionate about
improving women’s healthcare through education, advocacy, and individualized birth support. It
was this passion that led me to become a doula, and eventually apply to the UArizona Bachelor
of Science in Nursing program with an emphasis in Integrative Health. In my current role as a
birth assistant at Willow Birth Center, my role expanded from the emotional support that I
offered as a doula to include the physiological care of both mother and baby. I am the right hand
of the midwife—providing direct patient care through accurate assessment and collaboration.

The knowledge and experience I gained in the previous positions boosted my confidence when I
began my nursing preceptorship at Chandler Regional Hospital’s labor and delivery unit. During
my 12 shifts at Chandler Regional, I expanded my nursing skills to eventually become
comfortable with independent patient care from admission through delivery to postpartum
handoff. I worked closely with my preceptor and the other RNs on the unit to become part of the
team, helping others and asking for help when needed. I learned the systems of the hospital and
the policies of individual providers and put this knowledge to practice in caring for my patients.

I look forward to the diverse skills that I will learn as a labor and delivery nurse at TMC. I am
particularly interested in Tucson Medical Center’s Labor and Delivery unit because of the unique
relationship between this hospital and the El Rio Midwives. I feel strongly about being a part of a
hospital system that values and strives to foster a respectful working relationship between
obstetricians and midwives. TMC provides the perfect environment for blending my passion for
midwifery-led care and my clinical, person-centered experience. I look forward to discussing
new nurse opportunities with you. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Ashley Peña
