Week 1 Getting Started With Adobe Premiere
Video editing has gone a long way in the digital media world and technology. It has something
to do with applying filter enhancements, colour corrections to video clips. Editing a video is like
adding and removing sections, sound effects, pictures and captions to your raw footages. It just come
from creating transitions, effects and animations before putting the pieces of films and clips in their
position. You can start editing your video by using different software application fit for your needs.
One of the best example of video editing application is Adobe Premier Pro.
The Adobe Premiere Pro is a timeline-based professional video editing application used
to edit and create clips/videos. It is released in by Adobe Inc. compatible with Windows
and Apple OS. It is not only powerful but also versatile and is used by both professionals
and amateurs. This is one of Adobe’s greatest strengths, and is one of the reasons why so many
people use it.
The workspace is what you see when you open up a project in Adobe Premiere. The adobe
premiere workspace has commonly used panels, but you can customize it however you like depending
on your editing set-up such as source monitor, program monitor, project panel, timeline sequence, tools
panel, audio meters, etc. Each panel contains a different set of buttons, options, and information to help
you edit your video. The panels are organized in tabs. At the top of any workspace section, click a tab
to display the panel. Through this, you’ll be able to spend more time editing, and less time looking for
obscure menus and settings. Personalize your workspace in the beginning will make every edit more
efficient and organized throughout your workflow.

THE COMMONLY USED ADOBE PREMIERE WORKSPACE
1. PROJECT PANEL: It is used as references from where you manage all the raw footages, audio,
videos and images that you have imported into Premiere Pro. You can see the project panel in the
lower-left of your editing workspace. It also contains your sequence like a scene in a movie.

2. PROGRAM MONITOR: It is used to serves as the editor’s live monitor. The Program Monitor is
also used to playback and preview only the clips on the Timeline. You can find the program monitor
at the upper-right area of the workspace.
3. SOURCE MONITOR: It is used to hold and prepare clips before you add them to a sequence.
The Source Monitor is also used to playback and preview individual clips.

4. TIMELINE SEQUENCE: It is used to perform the majority of your edit work including adding
clips, positioning them, and changing their properties. Each sequence in the project is a separate
independent timeline so that you can also use the timeline to add effects and transitions to the video
and audio clips in your project. All editing takes place within sequences in the Timeline.
5. AUDIO MASTER METERS: This panel is a Volume Units meter. It is used to show the volume
of clips that are on the Timeline. When you preview the video and audio clips on the timeline, the
display in this panel is active.

6. TOOLS PANEL: It is used to stores the various editing tools that you can access in the application.
The cursor changes appearance when you select a tool. The type of content that you are hovering over
is based on the tool that is active and selected.

THE ADOBE PREMIERE PROJECT
To begin editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, you need to open New Project that contains your customized
Panels and workspace. The workspaces bar is located at the top of your window, under the menu bar.
Each workspace offers you a different configuration of panels, each designed to help you work with
your project differently.
3. The New Project window will appear, enter a descriptive Name for your project.
5. The Editing tab name is blue when you are already in the editing stage. If not, click Editing in
the workspace. This means that you can now start editing your videos and clips.

HOW TO CREATE A NEW SEQUENCE IN ADOBE PREMIERE PRO
In Premiere, a Sequence contains all the edits for a specific sequence of audio and video.
Every Premiere project has at least one sequence. In this example, we edit everything in one sequence.
1. In the menu bar, click File menu > New > Sequence.
The New Sequence window will now open. You can now configure the desired video and audio format
of your sequence like frame rate, video resolution, audio quality, color depth, and so on.
2. Choose one of the Sequence Presets that provide standard configurations for a variety of
formats.

3. Under Available Presets, select AVCHD > 1080p > AVCHD 1080p30. This preset creates a
1080p video ideal for uploading to YouTube or Vimeo, suitable to view on any mobile device or
television.
4. Enter a descriptive Name for your sequence (such as "Our Vacation"). This name is used as
the default file name of the final video.

WHAT IS ADOBE BRIDGE?
Adobe Bridge is a software application for managing files on Mac OS and Windows computers. It is
part of the Creative Cloud. It is used to organize your files and folder when you have a hard a time
finding your saved pictures or videos. It is one of the few Adobe software that is completely free and
downloadable without the use of subscription.
