Anderson GJ, Fuqua BK, Vulpe CD. Intestinal Iron Absorption. J. Trace
Elem. Med. Biol. [Internet]. 2012 [cited 2022 Feb 9]; 26(2-3):115-119.

In this journal article, all three well-known researchers have provided a detailed
explanation of iron absorption, mainly focusing on the mechanism of intestinal
iron absorption. Rather than just directly focusing on the iron absorption
mechanism, they have first introduced the basic understanding of the importance
of iron in a human body and how this is interrelated with the mechanism of iron
absorption. In fact, the way they structured the information by breaking it down
into small chunks rather than all at once has helped me to digest the core
principle more easily. Furthermore, the author has also explored the mechanisms
involved in the regulation of iron absorption from a broad perspective. This is
because the information delivered on this particular part, especially on the
different levels of iron absorption regulation which is the systemic regulation and
local regulation has enhanced the depth of my understanding of the overall
mechanism. Thus, it is not surprising that this is a high-quality research paper
containing both reliable and valid information. At the end of reading this journal
article, I gained a lot of additional knowledge to answer the question relevant to
iron absorption as well as other questions in my SPC topic due to the extra basic
information provided in this article. Overall, the contents provided in this article is
in line with Theme III: Foundations of Medicine because it published details on
the mechanisms of iron absorption across the enterocyte and the regulation of
iron absorption at different levels which basically address the human systems and
one of the basic processes of life that underpin the basic medical sciences.
