SUMMARY OF THE EVENT (EMPLOYER’S PERSPECTIVE ON ONLINE LEARNING

GRADUATE)

The event that is on 8th June 2022 were being organized by students from Finance
faculty and being held at Auditorium Ibu Zain, UiTM Kampus Bandaraya Melaka. The
speaker lineup for this event is Dato’ Rosthman Ibrahim who is the President of Persatuan
Alumni UiTM Cawangan Melaka and CEO of Lacrista Hotel and Puan Salmah Nawi who is
an experienced sourcing specialist from MTD Capital.

In this event, we have learnt a lot from this speaker since they are expert in business
and they give lots of advice and tips on how to tackle employer in interview even though we
are online learning graduate. Firstly, they said that the interviewer will evaluate us based on
the skills that we have because they did not care whether we are online graduates or not.
they want to see the “x-factor” that will make us stand out from everyone else. At the same
time, they also state that the interviewer also does not expect the fresh graduate to have
working experience therefore online graduates do not have to be afraid of the interviewer’s
expectation when it comes to working experience.

Besides, the speaker also wants us to improvise our resume by placing our personal
objective in the resume. This will allow the interviewer to know what are we want to achieve
and what we can give to them if we are being accepted in the company. They also state that
online graduates should not create any gap on the resume and do not leave any column
empty because the interviewer will ask why it is empty. We have to put skills that they need
for the offered job and put any kind of experience that is relevant in the work experience
column. For example, if we had working as housekeeping before we have to show the
achievement that we get such as employee of the month, awards and more.

Lastly, the speaker states that when the online graduates enter the internship in
some company, there are certain things that the employer will ask us to do that is beyond
the scope of the work because by doing that, the employer already trust us and treat us like
their own family so they tend to give some work that is not related with our scope. However,
if the work that have been given are not proper and break the job rules and regulations,
online graduates have the right to ask the lecturer to change the company for their
internship. At the same time, regarding to the issue working after office hour, it is wrong for
the employer to make their intern work after office hour. However, it is up to the employer
itself on how they want to take care of their employee’s welfare.
