IICT ASSIGNMENT 3

M. Anas Siddiqui cs211251

JULY 6, 2022
DHA SUFFA UNIVERSITY
TASK 1)
Computers are an integral part of everyday life. Nearly 75% of U.S. households include a
desktop or laptop, 77% of U.S. adults own a handheld device such as a smartphone, and 51% of
adults have a computer tablet. Despite increases in technology use among older people, many lag
behind. In 2019, 65% of people aged 65 and older owned a computer, 42% owned a smartphone,
and 32% owned a tablet. One-third of adults aged 65 and older have never used the Internet.
Although age is a key determinant of the digital divide, other factors contribute to digital
disparities, including education, income, gender, and generational status. In U.S researcher found
that compared with older whites, older blacks and Hispanics, after accounting for demographic
characteristics, education, and health, are less likely to use technology for health-related
purposes.
Task 2)
1. Social connectivity:
It is one of the most important predictors of ongoing good health. Technology enables us
to make vital connections with loved ones anywhere in the world and can enable new
friendships to emerge.
2. Safety:
Personal emergency response systems, which call for help at the press of a button and
GPS devices to help manage wandering in people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia
3. Health Tracking:
Wearable devices can track sleep, steps taken, heart rate and more specific measures to
help aid healthy living, while smartphone apps can assist with medication management
including alarms to take medication and notifications to refill scripts.
4. Entertainment and Education:
Technology allows us to find groups to engage in hobbies and special interests and can be
a source of news and education through online newspapers and eBooks.
5. Exercise:
Numerous exercise programs can be found on YouTube and other apps and streaming
sites.
Task 3:
 Telephones
 Mobile phones
 Radio
 Camcorder
Task 4:
Viewing the screens on computers, tablets, smartphones, and other tools can be difficult for
aging adults with vision problems. As seniors age, their risk of eye conditions like glaucoma,
macular degeneration, and cataracts increases. These are health problems that cause the elderly
to have difficulty reading books, newspapers, emails, text messages, and notes when using a
technological device. To manage this issue, help your loved one perform eye exercises, and take
him or her to the doctor for treatment. Also, purchase devices with larger screens and buttons
that make it easier for your loved one to use technology.
Task 5)
Neuro Rehab VR provides a virtual reality experience for older patients undergoing physical
therapy following a stroke, brain injury or spinal cord injury or who suffer from
neurodegenerative diseases.
Just what is so special about this VR experience? Their technology is targeted: By employing
machine learning, the company tailors each exercise to a patient’s specific therapy needs and
ability. The customized virtual therapy exercises record physiological and kinematic responses,
quantifying the progress of the patient with scores and metrics over time.
