The All-Native approach offers the most cost-efficient traffic handling in a mixed TDM and packet
environment while supporting all the necessary PTN attributes. Using native handling allows a gradual and
controlled shift from TDM-based infrastructure to packet-based infrastructure, while also minimizing risk by
eliminating complex and costly encapsulation schemes to carry Ethernet over TDM or TDM over Ethernet.
The NPT product line supports a full set of Carrier Ethernet services and features including QoS, protection,
OAM, and synchronization to assure undisrupted service delivery. Integrated WDM, OTN, and ROADM
allow seamless integration with next generation optical networks.
By supporting the most advanced carrier class Ethernet-based services (L1, L2, MPLS) and with MEF
CE2.0-based certification, the NPT is well positioned to deliver cellular backhaul transition/migration plans
from TDM to Ethernet as well as for new build outs of LTE and 4G networks, support for full triple play
services for residential NGN applications, and utility company transitions to packet, CoC, and business
applications. The NPT family of products is managed by the LightSOFT® NMS.
The NPT's value propositions include:
Efficiency through ultimate flexibility
Choice of packet and TDM handling options - native packet, native TDM, TDM over packet, and
packet over TDM
Unique build-as-you-grow architecture
Converged packet, optics, and TDM
An NPT-1200 shelf Packet slot capacity is evenly distributed between all I/O slots using different types of
matrix cards (CPTS100/320, CPS100/320). The CPTS100 and CPS100 have a packet switching capability of
100 Gbps each, and the CPTS320 and CPS320 have a packet switching capability of 320 Gbps each.
The bandwidth allocation capacity per I/O slot in the NPT-1200 in reference with the CPTS/CPS cards used is
described in the following tables.
Table 2-2: NPT-1200 packet capacity per I/O slot (CPTS100 or CPS100)

2.5 Synchronization
There are five types of timing references available from SDH/PDH multiple timing sources:
From any 2 Mbps/2.048 MHz/E1 PDH tributary interface
From any SDH line
From any GbE/10GbE port which supports synchronous Ethernet
An external input of 2 MHz and 2 Mbps
G.813 internal clock
Synchronization Status Marker (SSM) is provided
1588v2 Boundary Clock (on CPTS100/320, CPS100/320) and Ordinary Clock (on CPTS100/320, CPS100/320,
DMXE_48_L2 and DMXE_22_L2)
1 Depends on the network conditions and PTP protocol configuration, and limited by 2000 pps budget.
