File Sharing in SOHO and Multi-Switch Networks

Laboratory Exercise # 4

Objectives:

After this laboratory, students should be able to:

1. Hook up several computers with a switch/hub device

2. Describe important of “subnet” in order to communicate with each
workstation connected to the network
3. To the functionality and connectivity SOHO and Multiple Switch network,
and
4. Perform file sharing in SOHO and Multiple Switch network.

Materials:

QUANTITY PART DESCRIPTION

NUMBER
- Working Personal Computer (PC)
1 with Installed Cisco Packet Tracer
Software

Procedures

1. Design a SOHO network in Packet Tracer with the information shown in Figure
3.1.
2. Configure the network addresses each terminals (PCs) by clicking the PC and
then click IP Configuration tab (refer to Figure 3.1).
3. On each terminal (PC), verify the newly assigned network addresses using
ipconfig command. Capture the results then place them in your data results.
4. Again, on each terminal verify the end-to-end connectivity of each PCs using
ping command. Capture the results then place them in your data results.
5. Simulate file (PDU) sharing using Packet Tracer, by clicking the Add simple
PDU button on the Common Toolbar and then drag the PDU to source terminal
(PC) to destination terminal. Capture the output of Created Packet Window and
place the output in your data results.
6. Save your Packet Tracer file as NET102 Lab 3a – Group_No
7. Do the same process (repeat steps 2 to 5) in Multiple Switch Network as shown
in Figure 3.2.
8. Save your Packet Tracer file as NET102 Lab 3b – Group_No

Data analysis / observations

NOTE: Discussion must be based on the data gathered from data results or
observation
Answer the following questions :

Questions:

1. Advantages and disadvantages of SOHO over PC-to-PC network

2. Try to simulate the following scenario in Figure 3.1:
a. Try to replace the IP address of PCA to 192.168.5.37, then ping
PCB. What does it display? Discuss briefly the results.
b. Try to replace the IP address of PCB to 192.168.5.103, then ping
PCA. What does it display? Discuss briefly the results.

3. Try to simulate the following scenario in Figure 3.2:

a. Try to replace the IP address of PCC to 192.168.4.30, then ping
PCB. What does it display? Discuss briefly the results.
b. Try to replace the IP address of PCA to 192.168.5.95, then ping
PCD. What does it display? Discuss briefly the results.

4. Discuss the physical and logical topology used in a) SOHO and b)

Multiple Switch or Hub networks. When to use SOHO and Multiple
Switch or Hub network? Discuss.

Answers:
CONCLUSION

NOTE: Discussion must be based on the lab objectives.
