PART I – EQUIVALENCE CLASSES

Let A = {1,2,3,4,5}, R={(a,b)|(a+b)is even} R is a relation on set A. Show that R is an


equivalence relation.

 ∀ aϵA , ( a , a ) ∈ R , then R isreflexive . (1,1 ) , ( 2,2 ) , ( 3,3 ) , ( 4,4 ) , ( 5,5 ) ∈R. Since (a+b) = 1+1 = 2
which is even number. ∴ R is Reflexive .
 if ( a , b ) ∈ R , for ∀ a , b ∈ A ⟹ ( b , a ) ∈ R . (1,3 ) ∈ R ¿
 ( a , b ) , ( b , c ) ∈ R , for ∀ a , b , c ∈ A ⟹ ( a , c ) ∈ R . ( 1,3 ) , ( 3,5 ) ∈ R , ¿
 R is reflexive , symmetric∧transitive ∴ the relationis an equivalence relation.

Each bottle of distilled water is supposed to contain 500mL of water. The table below
shows the inspection results conducted by the quality control supervisor.

a) 500 ml+ (−4 )=496 ml


500 ml+ (−7 )=493 ml
500 ml+ 9=509 ml

b) (500 ml ¿ ( 80 ) + (−4+11−7−8+9−2+ 6−5 )=4000 ml

PART III – COMPLEX NUMBER OPERATION

= 7i = 7+6i

= 4i = -15i

= -5 – 9i = 15 + i

=2+i =i+4

= -8i – 32i2 = 4i
