teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

X Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation:

● We will start by watching a model video I have created so students have an idea of what is
expected
● then the students will brainstorm for a few minutes what informational topic they would like
to cover.
● Next we will take a trip to the library to pick 2 books that cover their chosen topic.
● students will be given time to read both books and take notes on important information,
extra support would look like a graphic organizer to grab key details
● Once students have written their details they will check with me to make sure they have
enough information to begin creating their video
● then they will go ahead creating their videos showing the information on their topic using
images and details from both texts.
● to close we will play the videos for the class

Managing student learning: Students are actively learning in this lesson through brainstorming

with their table groups and neighbors, and appreciating each others videos. To manage time I will
set timers for each section to make sure we are able to get through everything, students will check
with me to make sure they have done enough research and have facts before moving on to the
video making process.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: This assignment supports student voice and choice
because the topic they choose to research is 100% up to them, this engages students and gives them
motivation when they have a say in their learning. By using a video to showcase their learning many
students will be able to participate through the use of visuals and also the ability to record audio.

Reflection: I think students would be very focused and motivated to do this lesson because being
able to choose your favorite topic is really engaging. Creating a video with visuals is also fun and
doesn’t feel like writing a paper or taking a test but is still a good way to see if students are grasping
concepts or if it isn’t sticking.
