Assessment Cues:
● The Philippine Red Cross reports a 59.5 percent decrease from 96,894 blood donors in all blood centers in NCR, Bulacan, and East Rizal in 2019 to
39,196 blood donors in the same place in 2020. Similarly, residents of Hda. Carmen, Brgy. Granada has little to no record of blood donation.
● Participants showed unwillingness in donating blood due to behavioral beliefs such as fear or physical harm during blood donation, as well as it
results to limited physical activity.
● Some participants only donate blood when immediate family or significant friends need urgent blood transfusion.
● Some participants are unaware of the benefits of blood donation.

Content Summary:
A. The purpose of National Blood Donation Program

Republic Act No. 7719, also known as the National Blood Services Act of 1994, promotes voluntary blood donation to provide a sufficient supply
of safe blood and to regulate blood banks. This act aims to inculcate public awareness that blood donation is a humanitarian act. The National
Voluntary Blood Services Program (NVBSP) of the Department of Health is targeting the youth as volunteers in its blood donation program this
year. In accordance with RA No. 7719, it aims to create public consciousness on the importance of blood donation in saving the lives of millions of
Filipinos.

Mission:

● Blood Adequacy
● Rational Blood Use
● Efficiency of Blood Services

Goals:
1. Development of a fully voluntary blood donation system;
2. Strengthening of a nationally coordinated network of BSF to increase efficiency by centralized testing and processing of blood;
3. Implementation of a quality management system including of Good Manufacturing Practice GMP and Management
Information System (MIS);
4. Attainment of maximum utilization of blood through rational use of blood products and component therapy; and
5. .Development of a sound, viable sustainable management and funding for the nationally coordinated blood network.

B. Basic Blood Donor Qualifications


You can donate blood if are:
● Weight of more than 110 lbs (50 kg)
● The amount of blood that will be collected depends mainly on the donor’s body weight.
● Must be in good health
● Aged 16- 65 years of age (16 and 17 years needs parental consent)
● Pulse rate: Between 60 and 100 beats/minute with regular rhythm.
● Blood pressure: Between 90 and 160 systolic and 60 and 100 diastolic.
● Hemoglobin: At least 125 g/L.

Donating blood has benefits for your emotional and physical health.
According to a report by the Mental Health Foundation, helping others can:

● improve your emotional well-being
● benefit your physical health
● help get rid of negative feelings
● provide a sense of belonging and reduce isolation
● Lowered Risk of Heart Attack & Liver Diseases
● Reduced Risk ofHaemochromatosis
● Lowered Risk of Cancer
● Production Of New blood Cells
● Weight Maintenance
● Lowered Risk Of Premature Aging
● Faster Healing Process
● Lowered cholesterol level

Research has found further evidence of the health benefits that come specifically from donating blood.

D. Importance of blood donation

WHY DO WE DONATE BLOOD?


Blood donation can save lives
● Every two seconds,someone needs blood, which means more than 38,000 blood donations are needed per day.
● It is necessary for critical surgeries like heart procedures, treatment of cancer, malignancies, transplantation, trauma and burn cases.
● It is important for people suffering from immune system disorders who need antibody treatment; those bleeding disorders like hemophilia;
women suffering from post-partum hemorrhage.
● One donation can save up to three lives.
