knowledge to explore emerging technologies.

What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

I can identify different weather patterns. I can use either a video or audio tool to demonstrate my
understanding.

Selected Instructional Software Tool: Anchor

Description of Software: This tool is an audio tool that allows you to voice record podcasts. This is
an easy-to-use tool that allows you to record and edit your podcasts for free in the app. This is a.
great way for students to demonstrate their learning in a multimedia way that gives them the
opportunity to display their creativity.

☒ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.

posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an

Lesson idea implementation:
To introduce the lesson and make sure the students are aware of their goals, I will have them read
over the goals with me while they are being shown on the board. This will let me know that they
have all at least read their goals and I will address any questions or confusion as they come up. The
activity the students will be completing during this lesson will be creating their own weather
adventure. After learning about the different weather patterns, the students will be asked to go on
their own weather adventure. They will record a podcast where they will describe the different
weather patterns they encounter on their adventures. This will be introduced after I explain the tool
to them and show them the example that I created for them to refer back to if needed. I will be
walking around and assisting the students as needed. If there are not enough recording tools for
everyone, I will pass them around to students once they are ready to record their podcasts.
Feedback will be provided to the students throughout the activity. They will be given feedback
before recording themselves in case something needs to be fixed. The lesson will be concluded by
having students share their podcasts with the class if they are comfortable doing so, as well as
having them share something they learned during the lesson.

Managing student learning:

The students will move from passive to active social learners by having them communicate and demonstrate
their learning through the activity. At the beginning of the lesson the students will mostly be listening to the
information being taught to them but as they move into the activities, they will begin collaborating. They will
have time limits during this to ensure they complete the activity on time. They will be asked to show the
teacher the outlines for their podcasts before they record them so that she can look over it for them.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:

This activity and technology tool supports and enhances the learning experiences for every student
in the classroom. It does this in the way that students are given the chance to include anything into
their stories without having to worry about spelling as well as having the technology there to assist
them if they are not able to use pencil and paper. It opens more doors for expression for the
students. They are able to add personality and emotion to their activities that they may not have
been able to include just by writing their pieces out. This goes along with the UDL principle of
Multiple Means of Action and Expression.
Reflection:
After creating this lesson, I believe this activity will impact student learning in the way that it gets
them to think deeper about what they have learned. This is the part that I am most looking forward,
the students getting to display their deeper understanding in a creative way. They will be taking the
information they have learned and incorporate it into their own story. This not only enhances their
learning but also enhances their creative thinking.
