1- At the age of 11, Ella started having trouble with her eyes. As she was 16, things got worse
because she was diagnosed with brain cancer and completely lost her sight.At home was the
only place Ella felt safe. The people and obstacles that Ella couldn’t see in the streets made
her feel bad. Ella stopped wanting to goTHE

and cut off every interaction with her friends.
She says, “They didn’t know how to help me and I didn’t know how to help myself.”

2- But then Ella was matched with her guide dog Katie, and there was a massive change. With
Katie by her side, Ella could get back the life she had always wanted. She attended university
with Katie that guided Ella on the train and bus from home to campus, helping her to avoid
obstacles and find the way to lectures.

3- “Now I can go to the gym, swim, go shopping, visit my friends – things I couldn’t do before.
Katie unlocked a whole new version of me.”

4- Ella is now studying for a Master’s degree in psychotherapy and hopes to become a therapist.
She also wants to educate people about the reality of living with a vision impairment .She is
also a volunteer for Guide Dogs and has started a local fundraising group.
