K4A – BS Criminology
Narrative Report Submission (Final Examination)

I. Narrative of your outreach program

The College of Arts and Sciences department hosted a live lecture about politics on May
2, 2022. The lecturer started out his webinar by asking us what kind of politician we wanted.
Then he exhibited Jessica's video about how politics affects her existence. Upon that, he
showed further statistics, including the percentage of persons who require mental health
assistance. He emphasized that the actions made by our government have an influence on our
society. The Mental Health Act of 2010 (RA11036) protects all of a Filipino's mental
fundamental rights and is both voluntary and accountable to its users. He also talked about
how important our rights are and what they involve. Because of social media, the speaker
stated that it is difficult to distinguish between fake and authentic news. He advised voters to
ponder three times about their preferred candidate in the upcoming election.

II. Reflection
This is the question I was thinking about during the presentation. Why should we
become involved? It's enlightening to consider why we should engage in politics especially we
are part of public service. As a criminology student, we should endeavor to learn more about
our chosen candidate. The most basic appreciation of their work is having a list of their
successes and credentials. Based on our discussion, being apolitical is not a beneficial move.
The program taught me how to be more aware of not just my mental health, but also how to be
politically alert when voting in the future election. It is within our Filipino rights to make use of
our voice.
