Preparation ACTIVITY: (ENGLISH – SPELLING)


15 minutes 1. A box filled with pictures are to be passed by a student to another. If
the music stopped, the student who’s holding the box will pick a piece
of picture from it and on the board, he/she will SPELL the name of the
object on the paper.
2. The same process will continue until all papers are picked.

ASK:
1. What were the objects drawn?
2. How do we call these figures or drawings? (Ans. Pictorial
Representation)
3. Do you think sets and subsets also have pictorial representations?

Example 1:

Using the pictures on the board, the students will arrange it in its proper
column where it best represents using two circles. The first column is labeled
as VEGETABLES and the second column as BREADS.

Ask:
Presentation 1. Is there a vegetable/bread/food that you can find in both circles?
18 minutes
CONTEXTUALIZATION:
Example 2.
The Venn diagram shows the survey of students about their favorite fast-food
chain.

Illustrate the following using Venn diagram.

Practice (SCIENCE/T.L.E – ANIMALS)


10 minutes
1. An illustration of two circles inside a rectangle, one labeled with small
and furry animals and the other duck-billed animals, will be posted on
the board, and lists of the folllowing animals: cow, dog, cat, horse,
duck, swan, goose, worm, snake, squirrel, platypus. Students will fill
out the diagram with animals under each category.

2 . A={ even numbers } B= {2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 }

ASK:
1. Did you find it easy to use Venn diagram?
2. How are sets pictorially represented by Venn diagrams?
3. How will you interpret Venn diagrams verbally?

5. Assessment

Draw a Venn diagram for each of the following.

Written 1. A = {set of letters in the word HANDSOME}


Test B = {N, A, M, E, S}
10 minutes 2. X = {Odd numbers}
Y = {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8}

6. Assigment:

Ask the students to create their own set and subset and draw a Venn diagram out from it.
