Spiritual Market:
• Current size of Indian spiritual industry is estimated to be 40 Billion dollars.
• Saumya Vardhan of successful online spiritual worship portal Shubh-Puja estimates this
figure to be 48 Billion dollars. (as per a report in forbes.com)
• Diya-lighting is a very integral part of worshipping in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and
Sikkhism. These four religions together form 82.6% of Indian population. (Census 2011)
• Diya lighting is an exclusive activity, such that substitutes like candles are not considered
appropriate and hence chances of other methodology replacing this practice in future is almost
zero.
• Hence demand for cotton wicks is expected to grow in proportion with spiritual industry.

WORKING:
• Machine is based on a simple mechanism.
• Precisely two needles held very close to each
other. They are rotated at a very high speed.
• This rotating arrangement when exposed to a
cotton ball, developed a long-necked wick of,
and due to high speed and torque, wick
automatically moved from block towards base.

Hence there is hardly any training required, anyone

Break Even assumptions:
• A person will be using a single machine, since the machine is light and portable hence he/she can
use it for production at his/her residential place itself.
• Other expenses include electricity charges which comes out to be 385 paise per KWh/month (for
domestic usage, pan India).
• Lets take round figure of ₹4/ KWh/month.
• Producer will be using this machine for exactly 8 hour everyday.
• Total monthly electricity charges:
Given power consumption = 50W = 0.05 kW
In 1 month = 0.05 * 240 = 12 kWh per month (8 hour per day)
Overall expense = 12 * 4 = ₹ 60 per month
(Assumption: all wicks that are produced are consumed at retail rate)
