Read the objectives of the lesson.

a. identify the hypothesis and conclusion of a conditional statement
b. transform a statement into its equivalent conditional form or through
Venn diagram
c. justify the truth value of the conditional statement
B. Development A conditional statement has two parts, the hypothesis and conclusion.
Constructivist Approach (Define hypothesis and conclusion in Science- Integration to Science)
Direct Instruction Hypothesis – p Conclusion - q
Compare and Contrast
(10 minutes)
When conditional statements are written in if-then form, the part after the word
“if” is the hypothesis, and the part after the word “then” is the conclusion.
If p then q
Present the example and let the learners identify the hypothesis and conclusion.
If you are obeying the CoViD 19 safety health protocols, then you are saving lives.

Learning Task 1 page 20

In the conditional statement, identify the hypothesis and conclusion.
1. If MJ is in Grade 8, then he is 14 years old.
2. If it’s cloudy, it will rain. (Integration to Science)
3. If you will sleep early, then you will wake up early.
4. If an integer is divisible by 5, the last digit must be 0 or 5.
(Integration within the curriculum)
5. If the triangle is equilateral, it is equiangular. (Integration within the curriculum)

A conditional statement has a truth-value of true or false. For a conditional

statement to be true, show that when hypothesis is true, the conclusion is also
true. While, for a conditional statement to be false you need to have a counter
example where hypothesis is true but the conclusion is false.

Consider the following examples and identify if it is TRUE or FALSE. Justify your
answer. (HOTS Question)
1. If 8x+8y = 24, then the values of x and y-intercepts are both equal to 3.
(Use Geogebra, Photomath and substitution method in justifying the truth-value.)
(Integration within the curriculum, ICT application)
(7 minutes)
2. If a figure has four equal sides, then it is a square.

Cabbage Ball
Pass the cabbage ball and when the music (Titibo-tibo Math version) stops, the
student who is holding the ball will peel the outer layer and will answer the
question written on it.
Change the statements to if-then form. Identify the hypothesis and the
conclusion.
1. You pass Grade 8, you will be in Grade 9 next school year.
2. An equilateral triangle is equiangular. (Integration within the curriculum)
3. All acute angles measure less than 90 degrees. (Integration within the curriculum)

5. If it is an eagle, then it is a bird.
C. Engagement In ¼ sheet of paper, write an example of if-then statement about your own
(3 minutes) experience during the pandemic time or Taal volcanic eruption. Illustrate the
statement using Venn diagram and determine the truth-value.
(response to educational need-See annotation)
Your output will be assessed using the rubric below:
