ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF ICT TRAINING

ICT Training in Education pertains to capacity-building activities which aim to equip

educators, particularly teachers in selecting, integrating and developing ethically
appropriate ICT pedagogy in teaching-learning processes.
Having ICT training will help the teachers to offer quality electronic-content for both traditional
face to face class and even in the new normal education. ICT training fo r teachers is very helpful
for teachers for them to acquire new knowledge and additional information about integrating
computer technology in teaching especially in this time of pandemic that we are relying with the
use of computers.
Teachers training and continued workshop on ICT training is considered an ongoing relevant
professional development for teachers. Because one of the professional developmental needs of a
teacher is the learning to teach with the integration of computer technology, so with this ICT
training it will help us to develop our skills in teaching with ICT.
ICT training may have advantages and disadvantages to both teachers and the learners:
Advantages
• Provide greater opportunity for teacher-to-teacher, Teacher-student, and student-to-student
communication and collaboration.
As we have our ICT training we will be orientated on the others sites or application that maybe
useful for us to have great communication with our teacher, students and also with our
stakeholders esp in this time of pandemic. Integrating computer is also one way to collaborate with
other teacher and also to student to student.
• Give greater exposure to vocational and workforce skills for teachers.
• Offer teachers the opportunity for more student-centered teaching.
The second advantage signifies the fact that ICT training allows teachers who have technical
vocational skills to showcase their abilities and potentials. Since ICT Training is highly technical,
this provides avenue for educators to hone professional technological competencies which is indeed
beneficial to equip them with very handy and practical knowledge and skill which are very relevant
in todays techy world.

Example for this are those teachers who have more leaning in computer or handling computer
subjects. This is indeed an avenue for them to showcase their talents and enhance their fullest
potentials. Kumbaga, mga non-academic subjects- handling teachers, diri sila mahatagan ug
exposure or chance nga moshine ug epakita ila skills.

• Provide teachers with new sources of information and knowledge.

As teachers, we are on the field that we have this continued learning, we are learning everyday and
we need to learn everyday so by having or attending ICT trainings it could be a great help for the
teachers to learn new information and knowledge to apply in our teaching-learning process. That
is why we are advised to attend seminars or webinars that is related with ICT.
• Supply teachers with additional resources to assist resource-based learning.
The next point is very self-explanatory. ICT Training adds teachers content knowledge with more
and wide reliable sources of information because of the availability of bulk of references in the
world wide web or internet. However, we teachers should always cautious when doing so, since not
all sources are correct, appropriate, and reliable.
This next advantage is quite related to the previous we point I discussed. Furthermore, ICT training,
makes a teacher resourceful and innovative because of like I said, the wide range of resources
online- ay it information or application. As a result, students or pupils also tend to acquire learning
from the resources mostly provided by the internet or even more than what was provided or referred
by the teacher.
Kibale, ang learning sa ato mga bata mas resourceful na, ky mas mobrowse naman sila ug mga
online reference or even offline resources nga pde marelate sa ghatag nga lesson or topic sa teacher.
• Provide opportunities for multiple technologies delivered for teachers.
This next advantage highlights the point that ICT training introduces new technology- this could
be a gadget, an application or a program which teachers can use and develop to aid their teaching-
learning instructions more efficiently and effectively. Example karon, kung wa ta gitrain or
gitudloan sa paggamit sa google forms or google classroom, di man ta makabalo nga naa d.i ni ug
pwede d.i ni magamit nato especially at this times of pandemic for our distance learning modality.
So daku kaayo advantage jud sa ICT Training, ky di man ta makahibalo or makaantigo ana nga
mga butanga.
• Improve the efficiency of educational administration and management at every level from the
classroom, school library, through the school and on to the sector as a whole.
ICT Training improves the work efficiency and effectivity in the school in all of its processes. This
is because it helps, the administrator, teachers, learners, parents and stakeholders to use a
platform where communication is fast, easy and cost-effective. The administration and
management of resources in the school can be easily updated and monitored when everyone in the
school or organization is trained in ICT. Mas paspas and trabaho ug makita dayon ang resulta pag
naay training kita o ang mga personnel sa ICT. Prehas sa messenger chat sa pagcontak , google
meet, zoom sa pagseminar or meeting, or even pagklase, google sheets sa pagsurvey or fill-in ug
necessary data, google docs sa pagconduct test nga di na nato need adtoan pa ang mga concerned
ones o mag kauban nato o estujante nato. So daku jud ug advantage ang ICT training.
• ICT helps to establish a learning environment that stimulate, motivate and engage learners.
Especially in this time of pandemic it is new for them to study in modular distance learning, with
the help of ICT they could be motivated in engaging learners to study hard.
• Equip teachers’ technical skills to Enhance innovativeness, creativity and resourcefulness
for effective teaching
• Have a positive impact on workload
• Cultivate Improved Communication
• Provide quick access to updated information
• Wider range of communication media for teaching opportunities
• Expand professional competencies
• Allow connecting Geographically dispersed regions

DISADVANTAGES

• Over-reliance on ICT strategies limits students critical thinking and analytical skills.
Because of the abundance of sources of information, ICT training allows teacher to be more
resourceful making use of online sources and contents which also allows students to utilize these
sources or contents in working out learning tasks the teacher has given, in turn, there’s a high
possibility that students may rely oftentimes on the plenty of sources of info. As a result they are
not anymore motivated to do more of analyzing and thinking skills in working out their lesson
activities. Their critical and analytical skills are not addressed actively or mostly.
• Computer-based teaching-learning has negative Physical side-effects such as vision
problem.

People who use the computers for an extensive period of time may complain about headaches &
pains in their wrists, arms & necks, These pains are due to using the computer keyboard for a long
amount of time, They also suffer from muscle pain due to fatigue. The computer use can cause
vision problems which are called Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS), The glare on the screen of
the computer, the reduced level of contrast of text to the background, and letters not being as
sharp or clear, This can put more stress on your eyes, The symptoms of CVS include eye strain,
blurred vision, headaches & dry eyes. And these conditions can happen when having ICT during
training and more so during integration in the lesson.
• Regular technical support is crucial and required-

ICT Training in education requires constant updating of skills because technology keeps on
progressing. So in the case of teachers, we need someone to also update our ICT skills to keep
abreast with the latest trends. This could be an IT specialist or a technician who knows more than
we do. Because it is not enough that we know the basics, we need to update so that we can apply
what we learn in ICT efficiently and effectively. Everything is evolving, thus, we always need regular
technical support. Every now and then, there’s a new program, a new application, new technology,
and new policy which we can apply or we are tasked to apply. Just like our type of educational
system that we have now. From face to face to new normal. Hence in order for us to adjust, we
need someone to provide as support to continuously improve.

• ICT Training takes time

This is because ICT requires technical skills. Since technology keeps on updating and evolving,
acquiring ICT technical skills does not happen overnight. It follows a certain process of molding
our skills in computers. First, we must know the basics, then follows the familiarization of
technicalities, then demonstration of skills, then application of skills. All of this and that takes a
lot of time than other types of training, especially that new application or program is founded or
updated everyday. It is like the more we learn or acquire ICT skills, the more we know that we still
have a lot to learn. Hence, practicing and mastery of skills really need ample amount of time
especially knowing the fact that ICT skills is the most intricate and technical skills to learn and
master.

• Requires functioning technical infrastructure and facilities or ICT equipment

ICT training is not just demanding and time-consuming. It is also costly and expensive. This is
because to conduct the training, there should be functional infrastructure, like building- computer
laboratories. There must be facilities or ICT equipment also like laptops or desktops, internet
connection- modem, wifi, router etc. This is the reason why ICT training may pose another
disadvantage, because it can not be easily conducted compare to other trainings in education. This
is really a challenge to education since not every school nationwide has the facilities and
equipment. How much more with internet connection.
Advantages: Teachers can use ICT organize their work and make it clearer.
Disadvantages: ICT equipment is expensive and needs trained staff to maintain it correctly.
Advantages: ICT can support different teaching methods; this varies the way students can learn.
Disadvantages: Hardware can be unreliable leading to breakdowns which cause frustration.
Here now the PROs and CONs of ICT Training:
1st, it helps teachers to make their work clear and organized but on the other hand, as they use or
integrate ICT, it is costly and requires technical assistance especially for new technology, which
means also that should there is an update or new application or program, we need a technician to
teach us upgrade us always also.
2nd, ICT is can supplement teachers with new teaching strategies and make them more creative
which is very effective for students learning, however ICT also can sometimes have some major
flaws, like Hardware malfunctions or not functioning at all. So in turn, it could waste the lesson
delivery time and cause frustrations both to teachers and students, sacrificing the lesson
objectives.
Advantages: Some computer programmers such as teaching programs provide immediate
feedback on work completed by students.
Disadvantages: Using ICT means children can become dependent on computers and technology
and not learn how to do things by hand.
Advantages: Encourages collaborative work, So students can work together.
Disadvantages: Internet can lead to children accessing unsuitable sites.
In ICT, because teachers have the liberty to maximize all resources online or offline, they can use
program that can help them provide immediate or timely feedback on learners outputs or
performance which is very time-saving on our part and most especially in our new normal
education today. This is really practical and relevant. However, one of the downside is, when we
always make our learners utilize ICT in working out their tasks, we tend to limit them and make
them dependent to computers and technology. As you can observe, most pupils now are bad in
spelling, why? Because they are not anymore writing important concepts in the lesson, they just
took snapshots or screenshot of whats been discussed. Writing is a very important basic skill that
a learner should learn, to form it we get to familiarize the word and helps us associate us its
meaning.
ICT Training helps us teacher to be creative, thus making our teaching approach require
collaborative work from students because they really can learn and do the task easily when they
are working together especially the one which use ICT. Nevertheless, because of ICT also, our
leaners can probably explore other sites which are not referred to by the teachers. Like pornsites
and other explicit or malicious sites.

Advantages: Some applications can save time and effort such as programs that teach French
vocabulary, these are quicker and more effective than using paper.
Disadvantages: Plagiarism has increased as students Find pre written work online leading To
students gaining unfair results On coursework.
ICT integration really saves a lot of time. Example for this is when we are searching a definition, or
a picture. However, because also of ICT, our students can easily copy other works. Plagiarism and
Cheating may become more frequent because of, like I said, plenty of sources they can look up or
use to.
