• PIPELINE AND PIPING SPOOLS CLEANING

• Cleaning
• The standard procedures shall apply to cleaning both pipeline and piping spools.
• After completion of welding and lining section to be tested, Cleaning of pipe shall be done
in order to remove all mill scale, rust, sand, etc. from the internal of pipe section or spools.
• For this purpose:
• Temporary compressor for air cleaning shall be attached to the pipe section or spools,
• Using air compressor until the complete dirt and waste are no more perceived. The time is
dependent upon the cleaning results and shall be determined by the Company at site
• HYDROSTATIC TESTING
• General
• Hydrostatic testing procedure of pipe section or spools shall be in accordance to
international standards API 1104 Standard or ASME B31.4
• Water source to be arranged by the Company/Contractor
• Pipe section or spools to be tested after cleaning operations have been successful carried
out.
• Selection of Pressure Gauges range (Generally minimum 1.5 times of test pressure and
maximum 3 times of test pressure range selection).
• The spools shall be pre-tested separately after construction at workshop and inserted in
their locations later.
• No welding of pipe is permitted after pressure testing only the golden weld in case of tie-in
by welding.
• Thermal stabilization
• The piping is hydrostatically tested to ensure the system is capable of withstanding the
operating pressure for which it was designed.
• This process involves:
• Filling water and purging air at the upper point of test till we are indisputable sure that no
more air pending inside the section or spool.
• If the pressure has attained at least 1 bar (g) on the highest section, the thermal
stabilization can be started.
• For thermal stabilization test section shall be held during an approved time already fixed by
engineering and approved by Company.
• Section Pressurization
• Adding pressure to the section or spools with respect of constant steps rate not exceeding
1.5 bar/min to 50% of test pressure, hold pressure and check flanges leakage or any unlike
statement.
• Pressurize to 70% of test pressure and hold pressure while continue check of flanges. This
is the highest pressure permitted to tighten up any leaking flanges
• After stabilization, the pressure should be raised to 95% of the test pressure and held for
30 minutes,
• Pressurize to calculated test pressure at rate not exceeding 0.25 bar per minute.
• PRV/PSV requirements and set pressure range during hydro test, needs to be specify by the
Company
• Test pressures need not exceed a value that would produce a stress higher than yield
stress at test temperature.
2.1 Test Pressure and Duration.
The test pressure shall be maintained for a minimum period of four (4) hours.
Unless specified otherwise by company PRESSURE is done by multiplying 1.5 MAWP by the ratio
of the allowable stress at the test temperature to allowable stress at the design temperature.
2.2 Testing
When test pressure is reached,

• Water filling valve shall be closed, connection between test pump and test section shall be
removed,
• manifold valve shall be plugged,
• Inspect system for leaks and verify pressure stability
• Start the pressure recorder with the chart, Check and records pressure and temperature
each 30 min interval.

3. ASSESSMENT OF TEST
• The hydrostatic test shall be considered as positive if pressure was constant throughout the
test duration, except for change due to temperature effects. Such changes shall be
evaluated.
• The test shall be considered as acceptable if the difference is less than or equal to 0.3 bar.
In case of doubt, the testing period shall be extended by 4 hours.
• If test section fails to maintain the specified test pressure after isolation, Contractor shall
determine the location of leakage or failure. For leak and failure within the pipe or weld
seams shall be repaired by replacement of entire joint or joints in which leakage or failure
occurs. The method of repair shall be determined by the Company and hydrostatic test
shall be repeated in accordance to this procedure.
• After the positive result of testing and all the data have been collected, test records and
charts shall be signed by the Company representative and final test REPORT shall be issued
with Pre-commissioning PACKAGE.
• Test piping shall be slowly depressurized at a moderate and constant rate under
supervision of Company.

4. DEWATERING AND DRYING.

• After Permission from the Company, Dewatering, Flashing and Drying by using Foam Pig
and Air compressor should be done for all pipeline sections.

5. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS DURING THE TEST

• Installation of no entry signs to non-authorized personnel from the roads to the Area of
interest.
• Signs stating PIPELINE OR PIPING ARE UNDER TEST PRESSURE - KEEP OFF with local
language translation shall be placed.
• No unauthorized personnel shall be closer than 40 meters to the pipes or equipment under
test pressure.
