“Woman in a Bowler Hat

This art appropriation is inspired by a painting in 1964 by Rene Magritte entitled,

“Man in a Bowler Hat”. We can see that the focal object in this portrait is the bird that
covered the man’s whole face. Accordingly, it is said that it is covered because the man
behind the flying bird projects ‘misery’. The painter used the same man in a bowler hat
with different focal objects. In this case, I think that he utilized a bird to signify the freedom
of revealing one's true self. As the bird passes through his face, he may be able to live freely
without masking his true identity. For the title, I switched the gender because I am a female
and believe that altering someone's sexual orientation should not be a problem at this
generation anymore. I used an origami for focal object and leopard print scarf to edge the
femininity.
