the instruments that accompany Peking Opera. I am expecting at the end of
this module you can describes the instruments that accompany Peking Opera.

The Musical Instruments of Peking Opera

Peking Opera ( pinyin: Jingju) is the most dominant form of Chinese


Opera which combines music , vocal performance, mime,dance and
acrobatics. During the performance musicians utilized various musical
intruments.
The major instruments of Peking ( Beijing Opera) are the percussion
block, Single drum , Chinese Large gong, jinghu, jing erhu, yueqin and
sanxian. The music of Peking opera is mainly orchestral music and
percussion instruments that provide strongly rhythmical

accompaniment.The main percussion instruments are the gongs and drums
of various sizes and shapes. There are clappers made of hardwood or bamboo.
The main stringed instrument is jinghu ( Beijing fiddle) supported by erhu
(second fiddle). PLucked stringed instruments include yueqi)(moonshaped
mandolin) pipa ( four stringed lute) and xianxi ( three stringed lute).

Guzheng - A Chinese zither. A kind
of plucked instrument. Its scale is
pentatonic and using the notes do,
re,mi, so and la.

Pipa - is a chinese lute, held in a


vertical or near vertical position
during the performance.

A kind of bowed instrument the


most representative one in the
Chinese traditional folk musical
instrument. It is the two stringed
vertical fiddled.

Ruan - It is a lute fretted neck, a


circular body and four strings.

Pengling – These are two small bells


made of high tin bronze, without
internal clappers, and hemispheric
or bottomless gourd like in shape.

Yunlou- It may be carried by a
handle or set on a table. The
instrument is tuned with seven
pitches to the octave.

Dizi- the bamboo flute in Chinese

How to use an Improvised Drums

MAterials:

Small tin cans balloons

Scissors ribbons

Paint and brush craft or hot glue

Procedure

1. Wash and dry and remove labels from the tin cans.

2. Paint can and decorate as desired.

3. Cut the balloon and stretch it over the tin can’s opening

4. Add ribbon to the seam of the balloon to help seal it in place and for
decoration.

anecdotes and folk legends, reflecting Chinese core values such as loyalty and
