PART IV. LEARNING TASKS

ELICIT INDICATOR 4 Establish safe secure learning environments to

enhance learning through the consistent implementation of
(8 mins.) policies, guidelines and procedures.

INDICATOR 5 Maintain learning environment that promote

fairness, respect and care to encourage learning.

 Prayer/Greeting/Checking of Attendance/Classroom
Management (Classroom Rules)
ACTIVITY 1 (Review/ Recall using Volcano Concept Map)
INDICATOR 6 Maintain learning environments that nurture and
inspire learners to participate, cooperate and collaborate in
continued learning.

Group Students into 5. Each group shall have a leader, reporter and a secretary. Based on
the pictures presented, give five descriptions of a volcano.

INDICATOR 7 Apply a range of successful strategies that

ENGAGE maintain learning environments that motivate learners to work
(5 mins.) productively by assuming responsibility for their own learning.

ACTIVITY 2 (VIDEO PRESENTATION)

Let the students watch a short video clip on volcanic eruption (Mayon Volcano). Let them
take down unfamiliar words as well as common words used. Let them answer the following
guide questions:
1. What have you observed on the video clip that you have watched?
2. As a student, how will you manage if you encounter such occurrence/event?

(Teacher will randomly select 3 students to present their ideas/outputs)

This morning we are going to tackle about the different types of volcanic eruption. At the
end of the lesson, I am expecting that you will be able to, (read the objectives).
INDICATOR 6 Maintain learning environments that nurture and
EXPLORE inspire learners to participate, cooperate and collaborate in
(15 mins) continued learning.

ACTIVITY 3: How do I erupt?

Objective: Identify and describe the different types of volcanic eruption

1. Phreatic Eruption a. A violent volcanic eruption due to the contact

between hydrothermal water and magma
can be very explosive.

2. Phreatomagmatic b. A stream driven eruption where in water

comes contact with hot rocks

3. Strombolian c. Characterized by a tall eruption column that

reach up to 20 km high with pyroclastic flow
and ash fall tephra

4. Plinian d. Excessive explosive type of eruption of gas

and pyroclastic

5. Vulcanian e. A periodic weak to violent eruption

characterized by fountain lava

Apply history of some type of volcanic eruption in the Philippines or in some other
countries
- Can you name the different volcanoes found in
the Philippines?
- Have you witness their eruption?
- What type of volcanic eruption did they
manifest?
- What are the Effects of volcanic eruption in
human, animals and the environment?
-
The following are the list of activities related to disaster preparedness Before,
During, or After a volcanic eruption.

BEFORE
-Pack bottles of potable water and portable radios with batteries.
-Have a family escape plan and avoid low-lying areas.
-If you live near a volcano, secure maps on the possible path of volcanic
flow

DURING
-Tune in to the radio for advisories and warnings
-Wear protective gear – goggles, gas mask, long pants, and long sleeves.
-If indoors, close all windows, doors, and dampers to keep volcanic ash
from entering.
-Avoid inhaling volcanic dust by covering your face with a wet towel.
-Bring animals and livestock into closed shelters to protect them from
breathing volcanic ash.

AFTER
-Let friends and family know you're safe.
-If evacuated, return to your houses only when authorities say it is safe
to do so.
-Continue listening to local news for updated information and instructions
-If people around you are injured, practice CHECK, CALL, CARE. Check
the scene to be sure it's safe for you to approach, calls for help, and if
you are trained, provide first aid to those in need until emergency
responders can arrive.
