Case:

Mrs. Campbell and her son 20-month-old Caleb went to clinic for an abrasion on his arms and legs.
“That is what happened when he ran from resisting my cuddle “. Mrs. Campbell lamented to the nurse. He
now can fully walk and prefers to be walking than to be cuddled by his mother. When asked by the nurse if
it hurts, Caleb answered ‘NO” opposing to his grimacing facial expressions. On further questioning, Caleb’s
mother explains that he is showing various behavior issues lately. He further states that Caleb is hitting,
pulling his hair and sometimes screams. He easily gets tantrums. “Caleb’s problems are probably my fault. It
seems I didn’t raise him right. Now I’m afraid he grows with unwanted behavior and I don’t know how to
help him.” Caleb’s mother continued. Caleb screams “No” on the nurse when she tries to assess the
abrasions on his legs.

The following day, Mrs. Campbell and her son are being seen in the Emergency room. The night
before, Mrs. Campbell discovered that Caleb had tumbled down the stairs. At the ER, Caleb was given a
thorough examination and was treated for a small laceration to the head and a severely sprained arm. He
was discharged in stable condition from the ER with instructions to see his pediatrician the following
morning.
