UNIT 6

Lesson 1
Learning objectives: Identify and use new words: sea animals.

Make the most of the visual used to introduce the unit and do activities 1 to 5 following TB
suggestion. Try to incorporate flashcards into activities to make them more memorable. To exploit
the song to the full, follow the ‘Be a Star! tip.
You might want to create visual aids with your students to provide them with peripheral learning
(we perceive much more in our environment than that to which we consciously attend).

Lesson 2
Learning objectives: Reading an informative text; identify new words: adjectives.

This lesson focuses on critical thinking skills. The tasks prepare children to make decisions, solve
problems, and take control of their learning. Please notice the Teaching star! and encourage
children to co-operate. Do it all following TB suggestions.

Reinforcement: workbook pages 70 and 71.

Review - Units 5 and 6: do it all. You can use flashcards to do some fun revision. Children often
measure their own language learning progress in terms of ‘how many words I know’. Learning
vocabulary can be one of the most significant and satisfying outcomes in the first years of English
lessons. It boosts children’s confidence and self-esteem. It also lays the foundations for leading
children into using grammatical structures in more extended and creative ways. Provide plenty of
practice and recycle!

It would be advisable to use/make/print sets of flashcards with key vocabulary. These will be useful
to present, revise, pair students, and play games, among others.

Reading time:
Learning objective: Read two fables; develop reading fluency.
When you do a reading/video activity, it is often useful to plan for the following three stages:
before, while and after reading/watching. Make the most of this beautifully illustrated text since it
will help develop a love of reading and build confidence in reading longer texts. Key vocabulary
and structures are consolidated to give examples of natural language use. Make sure to use the
animated video as it brings the story to life.
