INTRODUCTION

In any scenario, it is very important to have the ability to make the right decisions to generate

positive changes. Decision making is an activity of great respect and pressure because it is

decisive in directing and organizing any environment.

As a business administrator, making decisions is a vital function for your professional

development, therefore, having the criteria, the ability and the courage to do so according to a

previous analysis is extremely important and natural for this profession.

In the following presentation we will speak from an experimental context about the

importance of decision-making with a focus, presenting experiences in the selected company

and generating observations that contribute to a better understanding of the concept.

"Using the power to decide gives you the ability to overcome any excuse to change any part

of your life in an instant."

~Anthony Robbins

1. DECISION MAKING AND NEGOTIATION

2
1.1 SITUATION IN THE COMPANY ECOPETROL S.A.

In the selected company, the rotation of shifts is managed to cover commercial

activities.

In this scenario, it is important to clarify the importance of recognizing the positions

of all employees and their organizations so that the supervisor in charge makes the
decision to accommodate their shift without offending anyone.

1.2 PROBLEM SITUATION (MEDIATION EXERCISE)

When scheduling shifts, each worker has his or her preference, but logically it is not
possible to attend to everyone's preferences at the same time, or to choose one's own
criteria, as this could be an offense and would immediately generate difficulties in the
work environment.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO AS A MEDIATOR?

Initially, the shift history would be reviewed to understand which ones have been
benefited more constantly and then generate a more precise schedule in which
everyone leaves happy.
Next, I would talk with each of the parties and listen to their requests to reach a more
precise and timely arrangement and agreement that does not hurt anyone.
Finally, I would make the most beneficial decision for the whole group without any
preference, so that everyone feels heard and valued, and in this way contribute to an
excellent work environment.

NOTE: It is important to listen to all the parties involved to make a decision as a leader in
which personnel intervene, as well as having the ability to be impartial so as not to have
preferences and not to generate indisposition by any of the parties.

2. ELEMENTS FOR DECISION MAKING AND NEGOTIATION.

3
To make decisions it is important to have the correct concentration and procedure in
order to make the right decision.
To solve a problem you need certain elements that are important to find an initial
result, to learn and improve problem solving and to detect your own tools (skills).

 Decision. Possible combinations that include both the actions to be carried out
and the situations.
 Outcome. Hypothetical situations that would take place if one or another of
the aforementioned decisions is made.
 Consequence. Assessment based on subjectivity.
 Uncertainty. Confidence in the face of the unknown, especially when you do
not have experience in a particular problem.
 Preferences. Tendency to take one alternative and not another is conditioned
by experience.
 Decision making. Deciding action.
 Judgment.

2.1 DECISION MAKING PROCESS.

 Define the problem. Analysis of the situation you are facing.

 Detect the possible alternatives. Definition and recognition of the
combinations of actions that can be taken.
 Anticipate the results. Association and detection of the possible consequences
of each of the alternatives and study of the context in which the decision is
made.
 Choose an alternative. Choice of any of the options.
 Control. Monitor the results of the chosen option, you must be responsible and
have a participatory attitude in the process.
 Evaluation. Analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the decision
made, this step is essential for learning and future decision

2.2. CONTEXT: ECOPETROL.

According to the situation raised above, it is important to specify the necessary steps that
build a good decision.

It is important as a mediator to fully recognize the problem that is being presented to be able
to exercise control and possible solution, likewise, from the beginning to start contemplating
the possible alternatives and be very careful when exercising them, for this it is important to
evaluate What would be the possible impact on shift changes in a disorganized way,
therefore, exercising control of the shifts knowing the possible reaction of those involved is
to foresee the result, and by carrying out all this process, the decision-making can be
concluded in a fair way but mainly in a passive way.

On the other hand, knowing the protagonists, knowing the facts generated, knowing the
process is part of the appropriate strategy to make decisions, honestly contemplating each
action.

And as a result of a healthy and accepted shift movement by the operators without generating
discord.

 Important:
 Listen.
 Watch.
 Know.
 Impartiality.
 Professionalism.
 Integrity.
 Honesty.

3. CONCLUSIONS.

Listening to all the parties involved is the first step to start a correct decision-
making process, in the situation previously identified the problem lies in the
distribution of turns for convenience, that is, in terms of time, the solution that is
established in agreement to the processes already seen, is to check in a fair way
that both parties are satisfied, starting from a historical review of the management
of shifts, those who have more than one day and who of the other, once this
control has been carried out, it is important to express it in making yourself
understood and without creating discord, therefore it is important to speak clearly.
