Yahoo FBL Self-Submission Guide

Updated by Al Iverson, May 11, 2018

Overview
This guide is meant to assist clients who wish to submit their domains to the Yahoo ISP Feedback Loop (FBL).
Yahoo FBL participation is strongly recommended for all clients, as lack of FBL participation can be detrimental
to deliverability success.
For most clients, when purchasing the Sender Authentication Package or Private Domain SKUs, Salesforce
Marketing Cloud staff will attempt to register your domain with the Yahoo FBL. In some instances, this will not
work. This is usually because the domain in question has a custom configuration where the MX (mail
exchange) DNS record for the domain does not point back to a specific Marketing Cloud mail server.
Because of this, our attempt to sign up the domain for the Yahoo FBL will fail because we are unable to
receive the confirmation code that Yahoo sends out to postmaster@(domain).
In this scenario, we recommend that clients submit this domain to the Yahoo FBL themselves.
Prerequisite: Working Postmaster Address
During this process, Yahoo will send a code to postmaster@(domain) and you are expected to receive this
code and copy and paste it into the Yahoo FBL signup form. Yahoo will not accept a submission to the Yahoo
FBL without this code.
If your domain is example.com, Yahoo will send the code to postmaster@example.com.
Though it is best practice to maintain a postmaster mailbox, you do not necessarily have to maintain this
mailbox forever, as far as Yahoo is concerned. Yahoo will only care about this address during the signup
process. It will not mail anything to the postmaster@ address in the future.
Can’t Yahoo Just Do this For Us?
We have contacted Yahoo and asked them if it is possible for them to just be given a list of domains from us or
from a client, and then have them add those domains to the Yahoo FBL manually. They have told us that this
is not possible.
Why should I do this?
ISP Feedback Loops are valuable in that they either directly or indirectly contribute to deliverability success. At
a basic level, the FBL allows you to unsubscribe complaining recipients, preventing them from lodging multiple
spam complaints against you-- preventing them from further damaging your reputation beyond the initial
complaint. Some ISPs also provide a modest deliverability boost to those who participate in FBL programs, as
a way to drive enrollment.
Please review our full ISP Feedback Loop (FBL) Guide for more information about FBLs.
Yahoo FBL Submission Process
1. Go to this URL: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN3438.html
2. Click on “Sign up for CFL” and then click on “fill out a new Y! FBL application.”
3. Fill the form out as follows.

In the “Domain” field, put your domain name, not “mktg.salesforce.com.”

4. Solve the “I am not a robot” CAPTCHA request.
5. Click the “Get Verification Code” button.
6. After 5-10 minutes, Yahoo will email postmaster@(domain) an email containing a verification code.

7. Copy the code to the clipboard, and paste it into the Yahoo FBL submission form.

8. Click the “Create Request” button.

After this is done, your domain has been submitted to the Yahoo FBL. Yahoo will send no follow-up
notification. After approximately 36-72 hours, the domain will be enrolled into the Yahoo FBL process, and after
that point, any “report spam” complaints from Yahoo users should be received back by Marketing Cloud and
processed appropriately.
Can we have complaints come to us instead?
We strongly recommend that you leave the “Reporting Email” set to abuse@c.exacttarget.com. This is a
special address that our platform uses to receive ISP feedback loop complaints, and it will ensure that these
requests will be processed in a timely manner. If you set the reports to go anywhere else, it will then be up to
you to ensure full compliance with unsubscribe requests as indicated via complaints. Failure to process those
complaints could result in a negative deliverability impact at Yahoo.
But we want to read the complaints to see what people might have said about us.
The complaints contain only a copy of the original message. There is no opportunity for the Yahoo user to
include a comment. The email message is triggered when the recipient clicks the “spam” button in Yahoo.
