Research gap: There is a growing evidence that most elementary students’ language

preference in studying is English. However, there is only a few studies about the factors
affecting the student’s language preference and its impact to their learning.

Research Problem: This study was designed to determine the factors affecting the
student’s language preference and its impact to their learning.

Research questions:
1. What are the factors affecting the student’s language preference?
2. What are the impacts of their language preference to their learning?
3. How can ESL teachers help students to cope with subjects taught in Filipino?
