What I Need to Knowle
This module was designed to equip you with essential knowledge about the
said topic and skills on explaining the meaning of mobile device, differentiating the
different types of mobile device and distinguishing the characteristics of mobile
device.
This module contains several lessons. To make the most out of them, you need to
do the following:
1. Scan the list of Learning Objectives to get an idea of the knowledge and skills you
are expected to gain and develop as you study the module. These outcomes are
based on the content standards, performance standards, and learning competencies
of the ALS K to 12 Curriculum Digital Citizenship.
2. Each Lesson aims to develop one of the learning objectives set for the module. It
starts with an activity that will help you understand the lesson and meet the required
competencies.
3. Take your time in reading this module. Write down points for clarification. You may
discuss these points with your teacher.
4. Perform all activities and answer all worksheets. The activities and assessments
are designed to enhance your understanding of the lesson. The activities will also
give you an idea how well you understand the lessons. Review the lessons if
necessary, until you have achieved a satisfactory level of understanding.
5. At the end of the module, take the Post-Assessment to evaluate your overall
understanding about the lessons.

What’s In
We already learn about internet. Internet is the global system of
interconnected computer networks that uses the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) to
communicate between networks and devices. To collaborate with other people or
group of people using different user generated content, we make use of
communication tools and educational resources in the internet.

What’s New
This activity will help you think of the lesson we will be learning today.
Study the picture below. Answer the questions on a separate sheet of paper.
5
What Is It
In this generation, people are lucky to have high technology to use in daily life.
Most of the time, people use computers in many ways. People use this to collaborate
with other people or group of people. We are aware of the computer but we do not
know that there are many types of computer especially those which are handheld.
A mobile device is a general term for any type of handheld computer. These
devices are designed to be extremely portable, and they can often fit in your hand.
Some mobile devices—like tablets, e-readers, and smartphones—are powerful
enough to do many of the same things you can do with a desktop or laptop
computer.
6
3. Digital Video Camera (DVC) or digital camcorder is a
camera used for electronic motion picture acquisition (as
opposed to a movie camera, which records images on film),
initially developed for the television industry but now
common in other applications as well.
8. Project ARA
Initially developed in 2013, Project Ara was an experimental
Android smartphone from Google based on Phonebloks, a
modular phone concept designed by Dave Hakkens. The
7
prototype phone was completely modular, meaning that individual components could
be removed, replaced, and upgraded based on a user's needs. Modularization was
done by using small tiles that slid into the back of the phone, connecting with the
central unit via pin connectors.
In 2016, Project Ara was canceled, and all development of the modular
Android smartphone was stopped.
1. Portability
Mobile devices are defined by their ability to be moved frequently. Any mobile
device should function and operate consistently while on the move, regardless of
proximity to a power source or physical Internet connection. To aid in portability,
mobile devices typically contain rechargeable batteries that allow several hours or
more of operation without access to an external charger or power source.
2. Small Size
Mobile devices are also known as handhelds, palmtops and smartphones due
to their roughly phone-like dimensions. A typical mobile device will fit in the average
adult's hand or pocket. Some mobile devices may fold or slide from a compact,
portable mode to a slightly larger size, revealing built-in keyboards or larger screens.
Mobile devices make use of touch screens and small keypads to receive input,
maintaining their small size and independence from external interface devices. The
standard form of a mobile device allows the user to operate it with one hand, holding
the device in the palm or fingers while executing its functions with the thumb.
3. Wireless Communication
Mobile devices are typically capable of communication with other similar
devices, with stationary computers and systems, with networks and portable phones.
Base mobile devices are capable of accessing the Internet through Bluetooth or Wi-
Fi networks, and many models are equipped to access cell phone and wireless data
networks as well. Email and texting are standard ways of communicating with mobile
devices, although many are also capable of telephony, and some specialized mobile
devices, such as RFID and barcode readers, communicate directly with a central
device.
8
What’s More
This activity will help you master the topics discussed earlier.

product which combines a positioning Digital Camcorder
capability (such as GPS) and navigation
functions.
_____7. It is a wireless G. Personal navigation device
telecommunications device that receives (PND)
and displays alphanumeric or voice
messages.
_____8. It is a camera used for H. Pager
electronic motion picture acquisition (as
opposed to a movie camera, which
records images on film), initially
developed for the television industry but
now common in other applications as
well.
10
What I Have Learned
This activity will enrich your understanding of mobile devices.
True or False: Read each statement below carefully. Write T if you think the

carrier).
_____5. Mobile devices do not have size and weight that allows them to be carried in
one hand and manipulated with the other hand
_____6. Mobile devices have data synchronization capabilities with separate
computer or remote servers.
_____7. Mobile devices do not have local non removable data storage.
_____8. The most common size of mobile device is pocket-sized that can be
