While proceeding the hacking, the reinforcements (upper most portions) of some piles have
been damaged in Nilwala bridge no 02 and failed to provide the required anchorage to the
pile cap. If the number of bars (damaged) is one or two, then chemical anchoring is
proposed to provide the required anchorage. So, this method statement describes the details
of the materials and the procedure for chemical anchoring.
QAQC manager, Section Engineer and other relevant personnel within whose scope of
works shall be responsible for referred this rectification.
HIT-RE 500 injection adhesive, reinforcement bars (T16), drill, blow-out pump, cleaning
brushes
Most of the piles are consisted with one or two damaged reinforcement bars (listed in Table
1). For those piles, at the close proximity of the damaged re bar, a new re bar consisted with
required anchorage length will be chemically anchored to the pile head as follows;
b) Holes will be prepared in required diameter and depth as per the setting details of the
enclosed datasheet.
c) After having a proper cleaning, HIT-RE 500 injection adhesive will be injected in to the
holes using the dispenser.
d) Reinforcement bars will be inserted up to the required depth and kept undisturbed on
curing for duration as mentioned in the manufacturer’s literature.

Comments
For planting bars- Depth of anchor 320mm+5mm (For full development of tensile
capacity
For existing bars- Minimum lap length >= 800mm
So Above both condition should be satisfied to development of full tensile capacity.
However, the lap length could be reduced considering coexisting tensile force at the pile /
pile cap interface.
