Topic of the today’s assembly is - World Blood Donor Day
Blood – Blood is a vitally important fluid for the body. The blood transports oxygen
from the lungs to the cells of the body. Some people may need blood to be donated
if they lose a big amount of blood from their body due to some medical reasons or
accidents.
The word for the day is ‘donor’ which means the one that gives, donates, or
presents something to help others.

What means Blood Donor Day - Every year 14th June is celebrated as Blood
Donor’s Day since 1868. It is the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner, who was
born on 14 June 1868. Landsteiner was an Austrian biologist, physician, and
immunologist. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930 for his discovery of the ABO
blood group system, the modern system of classification of blood groups.

Even tough every one of us has red colour blood we cannot randomly donate
blood to anyone. Our blood group should match. Different kinds of blood group
