PURPOSE:

1. To show the process of selection of disinfectants and sterilization supplies.

SCOPE:

1. All HDMC staff, particularly Purchasing Department

DEFINITION:

1. This policy determines the method to approve disinfectants to be used in the clinic.

POLICY:

1. Ant sterilizing chemical agents or supplies or disinfectants shall be approved to use (by the Infection
Control Committee before being used in the clinic.

2. An ICC will approve or disapprove the use of these sterilizing agents and disinfectants upon
scientific bases and will delegate ICO for signing purchase approval.

3. The disinfectants to be used are preferred to be EPA approved (for chemicals used for surfaces and
instruments) and FDA approved (for chemical disinfectants used for hands and skin disinfections).
Prior to purchase of such items, the material Management department should get approval of
Infection Committee trough ICO signature.

RESPONSIBILITY:

1. The Infection Control team is responsible to coordinating with the purchasing Department regarding
the approval of disinfectants.

2. Sterilizing disinfectants ordered by Housekeeping and CSSD is put in a request at first directed to
Infection Control Committee for taking approval and recommendation for them.

3. Infection Control Committee give the recommendation according to the policy of Cleaning and
Disinfectants and give also the concentration for each disinfectants and how to be used according to
department and degree of infection there.
