PHASES TEACHING AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES REMARKS
Analyze  This lesson was created for 10 students in SMK BUKIT
SELAMBAU with at least a basic understanding movement SS:
of substances across plasma membrane. Observing
 Students should have an understanding of some basic
concepts such as those behind cells, tissues, organs, TS :
organ systems, and classification. visualization
 In order to successfully complete this lesson, learners
should at least have basic knowledge of internet use (how
to surf the internet, how to click through links, etc.).
 This lesson suits the visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic/tactile
learner.
 The various components in this lesson plan are suitable for
each type of learner, ensuring that every type of student
gains something beneficial in real life situation.

SS : Identify
TS : relating
State 1. Given a diagram of the structure of plasma membrane,
objectives students will use to identify the parts of plasma
2. Given internet access, students will use to conduct a
virtual experiment on movement of substances across a
semi permeable membrane using Visking tubing.
3. Given questions on plasma membrane, students will be
able to label and identify structures and explain why
glucose molecule can diffuse from wall of Visking tubing
into distilled water.
4. Given internet access, students will use to browse
through an exhibition, reading and studying all of the SS :
information in an hour. Inferring
5. Given a sheet of paper and a pencil, high school biology TS :
students will identify organelle in a cell from the online. defining
6. Given materials and apparatus prepared for experiment,
students will conduct an experiment from the virtual
experiment.

Select  Teacher will need:

Methods, - Teaching courseware created using software
Media, connected to classroom computer with internet SS :
and access Predicting
Materials - That courseware prepared with, notes on slaid, 3D TS :

1. Introduce students to the idea of cell, tissue, organ and SS :
Utilize recall their previous knowledge. Inferring
Materials TS :
2. Using powerpoint presentation studets understand to generalizati
Compare and contrast the substances that required and on
eliminated in living cells.
3. Using powerpoint presentation student analyze the
structure of the plasma membrane in the movements of
the substances.

4. Using a computer hooked up to

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiT02E4XVu4 ,
introduce the visking tubing acts as semi-permeable
membrane in a virtual experiment and
explain/demonstrate how to operate the program.

5. Have students seated at computers with internet access

and ask them to go to

Experiment-Substances-Across-the-Plasma-Membrane-
Visking-Tubing and perform the experiment. Have
students focus on the movement of molecules. Students
should spend one class period (one hour) on the
experiment.

6. Student asked some related website on the topic.

7. In the next class period, have students access from their

computer and ask them to play the movement of
substance game. They will be asked to locate the
structures plasma membrane and movement of
molecules. Have them perform this quiz/game as many
times as necessary in one class period until they score at
least 80/100. Ask the students to show you their computer
screen with the score for assessment purposes. This will
also ensure that the students are ready to proceed.

8. In the following class period, have the students will be given

an exam on the information and should really focus on the
content.

9. In the final class period, explain to students that they must

conduct an experiment an actual as a practical
assessment. They must label and identify the structures
movement of the plasma membrane. Demonstrate to the
students how to use tools properly.

Require The majority of the lesson requires independent learning SS :

Learner and independent work include group work This ensures Predicting
Participati that each student is gaining the necessary knowledge from TS :
on this unit and that each student is acquiring the knowledge defining
on his/her own.

Evaluate Learners will be evaluated through the following components: TS: Being
and - Participation in the forum confident
Revise  Students will be evaluated based on and
teacher observation of how much time independen
and effort they put into interacting with t
the forum and learning the structures of
the plasma membrane.
- Score on the quiz
 Students will not be
graded on how many attempts they
made at scoring an 80/100 or higher, but
rather whether they ended up achieving
the minimum score or not. Students who
do not meet the 80/100 score by the end
of the class period will have their final
score recorded as their grade for this
portion of the lesson and will not have
met the objective regarding this portion.
Students who do not meet the 80/100
score will need to come in after school
and use the school computers until they
are able to master the minimum score
