LP03 Reiser Sports Products

Reiser Sports Products wants to determine the number of All-Pro (A) and College (C) footballs
to produce in order to maximize profit over the next four-week planning horizons. Constraints
affecting the production quantities are the production capacities in three departments: Cutting
and dyeing; sewing; and inspection and packaging. For four-week planning period, 340 hours
of cutting and dyeing time, 420 hours of sewing time, and 200 hours of inspection and
packaging time are available. All-Pro football's provide a profit of $5 per unit and College
football's provide a profit of $4 per unit. The linear programming model with production times
expressed in minutes is as follows:

Formulate the Objective Function:

Let A be the number of All-Pro
Let C be the number of College Football.

MAX 5A + 4C

Cutting & Sewing Inspection & Profit

Dyeing Packaging

All-Pro (A) 12 9 6 $5

College 6 15 6 $4

Available <=20,400 <=25,200 <=12,000

s.t.the following constraints:

Constraint 1: 12A + 6C <= 20,400

Constraint 2: 9A + 15C <= 25,200
Constraint 3: 6A + 6C <= 12,000
(non-negativity): A, C => 0
a) Draw the graph and shade the feasible region for this problem.

b) Determine the coordinates of each extreme point and the corresponding profit. Which
extreme point generates the highest profit?

Extreme points Coordinates Objective function: Profit

E1 (0,0) 5(0) + 4(0) $0

E2 (0, 1680) 5(0) + 4(1680) $6720

E3 (800, 1200) 5(800) + 4(1200) $8800

E4 (1400, 600) 5(1400) + 4(600) $9400

E5 (1700, 0) 5(1700) + 4(0) $8500

DECISION: = ___1400___units. = ___600____units

c) Draw the profit line corresponding to a profit of $4000. Move the profit line as far from
the origin as you can in order to determine which extreme point will provide the optimal
solution. Compare your answer with the approach you used in part (b).
Answer: Upon expecting a profit line of $4000 from the coordinates of A=800 and C=100,
we may see how endless the contrast from the ideal arrangement which is A=1400 and
C=600, creating a profit of $9400.

d) Which constraints are binding? Explain.

Answer: The constraints that are binding are the Cutting and Dyeing (12A + 6C <=
20,400) and the Assessment and Packaging (6A + 6C<= 12,000) these two in case
computed at the same time will give the precise coordinate of the ideal solution that will
produce the most prominent profit.

e) Suppose that the values of the objective function coefficients are $4 for each All-Pro
model produced and $5 for each College model. Use the graphical solution procedure to
determine the new optimal solution and the corresponding value of profit.

Objective Function: MAX. 4A + 5C

Extreme points Coordinates Objective function: Profit

E1 (0,0) 4(0) + 5(0) $0

E2 (0, 1680) 4(0) + 5(1680) $8400

E3 (800, 1200) 4(800) + 5(1200) $9200

E4 (1400, 600) 4(1400) + 5(600) $8600

E5 (1700, 0) 4(1700) + 5(0) $6800

In no more than 5 sentences, explain what you have just computed.

Answer: In case the new values were applied, the new ideal arrangement would be A=
800 C = 1200 that has the most elevated profit of $9200. Based on the computations we
have done we finished up with an ideal solution which is extreme point 4 with the
coordinate of (1400, 600). With that in intellect, we seem to conclude that for the
accessible resources Reiser sports product can produce 1400 units of All-Pro and 600
units of College Football that will produce a profit of $9400.
