Executive Summary
Problem 1
Question 1:
Case Snippet 1A) A pollution control inspector suspected that a riverside community was
releasing semi-treated sewage into a river and this, as a consequence, was reducing the
level of dissolved oxygen of the river. He drew 15 randomly selected specimens of river water at a
location above the town and another 15 specimens below to check this. The
dissolved oxygen readings, in parts per million, are given in the accompanying table.
Is the suspicion of the pollution control inspector valid? Did he have to do any assumptions
to test his suspicion?
Introduction
The purpose of this whole exercise is to explore the dataset. Do the exploratory data analysis.
Data Description
1.ABOVE TOWN: oxygen readings, per million
Data has 2 variables Above Town and Below Town which float type.
As per the above summary we can infer that Standard DEVIATION for Below Town is higher which
than Above Town specimen readings which means Specimen drawn from the Below Town are less
consistent & responsible for reducing the level of dissolved oxygen of the river than Above Town.
Pair Plot:
As from the above pair plot we can infer that almost Above Town and Below Town readings are
looking similar but Below Town dissolved oxygen readings are on higher side making it more
suspicion for the pollution controller inspector.
The suspicion of the pollution control inspector is valid as from the readings Below Town specimens
drawn randomly by the inspector indicates that Below Town location is more responsible for
releasing semi-treated sewage into river as compared to Above Town specimen from the location.

Question 2:
Case Snippet 2A) On a communication channel one of three sequences of letters can be
transmitted: AAAA, BBBB, CCCC. It is known that the action of noise on the receiver
decreases the probability of correct reception of a transmitted letter to 0.6. The probability
of the incorrect reception of a transmitted letter as either of the two other letters increases
to 0.2. It is assumed that the letters are distorted independently of one another. Find the
probability that

plant species and the height of the species is noted. The objective is to examine whether there is any
effect of the fertilizers. The following ANOVA table is constructed. You need to
