TEACHING YOUR

STUDENTS WHAT IT
MEANS TO BE A
GOOD DIGITAL
CITIZEN

students aren't going to have
all the skills they need to
survive in this new digital
age?

We're hosting a professional

development that will provide
you with quick tools and
This professional development is an opportunity strategies to teach your students
for teachers to collaborate to come up with everything they need to know to
unique ideas to teach their students how to be
good digital citizens. My survey showed that thrive in today's digital world.
many teachers knew what it meant to be a good
digital citizen, but that their students had no
idea. In this digital world we're living in, it is
important that we take the time to teach our
students how to be responsible online
community members to ensure that they are
successful in the future.

In this PD we will explore the nine elements of

digital citizenship and discuss why each
element is important for our students to learn
about. (Waterford, 2019). We will also
brainstorm student-led activities that can
engage our students in learning about these nine
elements. We will take a look at digital resources
that provide digital citizenship curriculums and
how they can be adapted to the needs of our
own classrooms. We will share techniques and
strategies that we have found
to be successful in our own classrooms to
promote digital citizenship. Lastly, we will
address the ISTE Standards for both Students
and Educators and look at how digital
citizenship plays into the standards.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE
