TRISHA NICOLE DUMANGON BSA-1

REACTION PAPER

A language is a strong instrument for communication, and English is one of

the world's most dominant languages, with an influence on every field of
work. English is an extremely essential language since it is spoken and
understood in almost every country in the region and it is the official language
of about 52 nations worldwide.

Based on the video I watched, I am confident that we, Filipinos, can

comprehend and learn English because it has been taught to us since we were
kids. It's simply that there's a part of us that can't be expressed. We are
sometimes too shy to speak up in front of everyone since we do not speak
fluently and are conscious of it. However, simple or basic phrases may be
really helpful in communicating, particularly with others or foreigners who
visit our beautiful places.

I noticed that whenever I went to other places or tourist spots, there were
always a lot of tourists from different countries, but the majority of them were
Koreans, Japanese, and Americans who were enjoying our tourist spots and
places. I've heard that many of them struggle with communicating in English
and are unaware of how they speak, despite the fact that English is their
native or mother tongue for the vast majority of them.

Every time I speak in front of a large group of people, I feel nervous and
anxious because I'm not good at English and I overthink whether they will
laugh at me when I speak. When it comes to chatting or texting with other
people or with my online friends, I am very happy because they understand
me and others tell me that I'm good at English, which gives me relief and
courage to speak in English.

I believe English is not a measure of intelligence. Inability to communicate

fluently may not affect the future. Just don't be ashamed of who you are and
don't be afraid to express yourself. As long as they understand you and you
grasp the fundamentals of English.

Although learning and understanding the English language is the most

important thing to do in order to survive college, especially as a BSA student,
there is a lot of analysis and also to make my major subject easier, I would
improve my vocabulary and English skills by watching English movies and
reading books. It also helps to have or use the English language even at home,
which may allow you to be more confidence in expressing it. It is quite
difficult with insufficient knowledge or vocabulary.

Therefore, I believe English is widely spoken in our nation as an important

medium of intercultural communication. We learned it from an early age, so
we are more confident speakers than in Thailand, Japan, and Korea. It's okay
if you do not even speak English well; understanding very few basic terms
may enable our foreign colleagues to connect and feel comfortable with us.
Although being able to speak well in English is not a must for success,
understanding the language is essential if you want to pursue higher education
in this country.
