Dear Mrs. President and fellow board members, It is with regret that I hereby submit this letter as my resignation from the board of the Mentor Public Library (MPL). I am leaving in order to devote more time to my political campaign for the Ohio State Senate. In leaving, I reflect on the great progress of MPL over the last few years, and with great pride in having played a small role in that progress. MPL is truly an outstanding organization - from the board to the administration, to the staff, to the Friends, to the patrons. It has been an honor to be associated with such a fine group of people. Upon my exit, I would like to point out a few of the accomplishments MPL has achieved in the last two years. We increased hours and increased the days we are open. We were one of the first libraries in the nation to offer electronic readers (Nooks) and one of the first libraries in the nation to offer iPads for our patrons. We have been named the Organization of the Year by the Mentor Chamber of Commerce, and our Information Technologies (IT) Department has won several awards for its cutting edge service and programs. Our programming has been expanded, and our circulation is up. AND..we have done ALL of this while our state funding has been dramatically reduced. Despite this decrease in state funding and the increase in hours and activities, we have not asked the residents for a tax increase. This is a testament to the quality of this organization. Please remember that I will always be both a Friend and a friend of the library, and do not hesitate to call on me anytime I may be of assistance to the library. Thank you,
