prayer followed by a meaningful
discussion with the founder of Gtech
Guru, Ms. Mary Manzano, who
supports Google for Education as
Education Lead for the Philippines.
She gave an inspirational message
about the hard work of students,
teachers, parents, and school leaders
as they overcome and adjust the
distance learning. She also stated the
latest updates in Google Workspace
for education fundamentals; for
example, millions of students in the
Philippines have created Gmail
accounts to access the continuity of
learning through Google Classroom.
The 3-steps ladder to Impactful

Technology Use or ITU is also
discussed by her. These are the
Access, Adopt, and Transform.
Access refers to the affordable and
effective tools both teachers and
students can access technology.
In the Access step, there is the

shareable devices and collaborative

tools built for teachers and students
such as Google Workspace for
Education, Google Classroom, and
Chromebook. Next is Adopt which
refers to building knowledge and
comfort. It has two levels-
Fundamentals (Level 1) and
Advanced (Level 2) that are both
interactive online training curriculum
to give strategies for integrating
Google in teaching. The last one is
Transform that signifies the change
and effect of tools that are being
used in teaching.
She also introduced the 3-module

program to be launched in the first
week of classes to be accessed in
respected DepEd LMS. The benefits
of this program are to prepare
certification and to become a Google
Teacher Champion in respective
schools.
There was also a video that

demonstrated how to download and
use DepEd Mobile App and DepEd
Sim Card and Connectivity Load.

The first speaker discussed the

general information of Be Internet
Awesome. Be Internet Awesome or
BIA is a full program designed to
teach kids aged 8-12 years
(encouraging everyone to check this
out even the program is designed for

8-12 years old such as teachers and

parents) about online safety and
digital citizenship. It is also
accredited by the International
Society for Technology Education.
They will be launching a Filipino
version of this program in October
for teachers who prefer to teach the
program.
In today’s economy, the kids spend

more time in the online world
because of the pandemic; it is
inevitable to encounter risks in terms
of security and privacy, so she
encouraged sharing this program
during these critical times to have a
healthy use of the internet.
The second speaker tackled the 5

Pillars Overview of Be Internet
Program. According to him, teaching
digital citizenship and online safety is
essential as we are using the
internet.
The 5 Pillars of BIA are Be Internet

Smart, Alert, Strong, Kind, and Brave.
Also, there is a game called Interland

for the students via web browser.
This is a culmination of all the pillars
after learning about it. Aside from
that, there is a link

e.com that has accessible resources
for everybody about the other
details of Be Internet Awesome.
Be Internet Awesome Curriculum for

Educators is designed to equip
teachers of providing quality
education in distance learning. It
includes ready-to-teach Google

slides, media literacy packets,

printable classroom activities, etc.;
the speaker was instructed to just
localize these materials because
these are made internationally.
The last speaker elaborated that BIA

is acknowledged by DepEd to be
used by the students, teachers, and
parents to have a proper and positive
behavior in using the internet. As a
matter of fact, BIA can be integrated
by the teachers in the subjects of
ESP, EPP/TLE, AP, and English; most
intended for Grades 1-6 aged 7-12.
The “teacher preparation” is to be
taken by the teachers; this includes
the online BIA pretest, etc.; and, the
“student preparation” that includes
assisting students in securing their
Gmail accounts, etc. is to be taken by
the learners.
10:30 11:00 Session 2: Google Educator Groups

(GEGs) and Professional
Development
Speaker: Ma. Andreas Santos De

Guzman
This platform is used by the speaker

to reach out to other teachers for the
success of quality education in
distance learning. GEGs helped her
find the right professional
development as a school
administrator to be shared with her
teachers. Also, this platform served
as her update to what is the latest
stuff in education and education
technology.
Through this, she encouraged

teachers to join in GEGs Philippines

YouTube Channel on September 7,
2021.
Moreover, this platform provided her

Personal Learning Network as one of
the benefits of GEGs. She was able to
communicate with other teachers
around the globe exchanging ideas
about the tools in classes or in
school. As a matter of fact,
developing a global mindset is also
one of the benefits of this platform.
She became globally competent,
navigated different cultures, and
took pride in the world of what
Filipinos can actually offer in
education.
11:00 11:55 Session 3: Mental Health Amidst

Pandemic: Condition and Coping
Strategies
Speaker: John Jefferson Sevilla
Genaldo C. Dasingal
This session was just like a Q and A

portion. The two speakers talked
about the mental health of
individuals, most especially to
teachers. We learned that every
person has mental health because
each one of us has the capacity to
contribute to society. The speaker
explained that based on the
research, we have been experiencing
crises such as the wave 1 physical
crisis, wave 2 economic crisis, and
wave 3 mental health crisis because
of the pandemic. Furthermore, based
on the survey, the great stress rises
from 62 to 69% across age and sex as
an effect of the pandemic.

In addition, they elucidated the

behavioral, physical, cognitive, and
emotional signs of stress. They also
suggested treatments such as
counseling, pharmacological
treatment by the psychiatrist such as
antidepressants and stimulants, and
psychotherapy.
They persuaded teachers seeking

mental health professionals such as
psychometricians, psychologists, and
guidance counselors.
It is also important to spend time

reading reliable information and
filter the pieces of information to
care for our mental health. A
balanced diet, physical activities,
support from the people we love,
and self-mediation are some of the
ways to protect our mental health.

Banner Design using GIMP for
Instructional Video Development
Speaker: Lorenz Villaflor
As we embark on another school

year of distance learning, the
available tools and technologies will
soon be relevant again as we will use
them in teaching lessons. The
speaker gave a short introduction
about GIMP which stands for GNU
Image Manipulation Program that is
a multiplatform tool suitable for a
variety of image manipulation tasks
including photo retouching, image
composition, and imaging
construction. He justified 7 reasons
why we should use GIMP. This

includes free download, filters for

photo editing, and graphic design
tools. He just demonstrated the step-
by-step process from installing,
exploring tools, and utilizing every
option provided by GIMP.
GIMP will be such a great help for

every teacher in terms of designing,
creating banners, photo editing, etc.
to engage the students during the
online class. Through the flexibility
and creativity of teachers, it is indeed
that quality education is still possible
in the midst of pandemics with the
help of amazing platforms such as
GIMP.

Krita for Book Illustrations and for
Instructional Video Development
Speaker: Arvin Key Barles
Most of the teachers during face-to-

face classes used traditional
illustrations such as paper and pen or
drawings in illustrating a story,
graphs, or any visual aids. With this
session, the speaker taught the
teachers digitalizing instructional
materials especially that nowadays,
there are many available tools that
the teachers can utilize and integrate
into their teaching method as
technology is getting rampant and of
course, we will be conducting online
classes this coming school year.
The speaker just demonstrated
