SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME (SIP)

BATCH 2021-23

Summer Internship Programme (SIP)

Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU) Faculty of Management, School of
Management (PG) offers MBA and MCA programmes which are professional in nature and demand that the
students should be industry-ready when they join the organization for employment. Hence, these programmes
are designed to be rigorous, contemporary & aligned to the needs of the industry.

Purpose: Summer internship Programme (SIP) is an important means to achieve necessary industry-
orientation for the students and help him to excel in his professional skills.

Objectives:

The objective of the Summer Internship Programme (SIP) is to expose the students to the dynamics of an
organization and to integrate classroom learning with practical experience. The SIP benefits the students
through the first-hand experience earned, while the host organization benefits through availability of young and
enthusiastic interns who are having new ideas, to aid in execution of organizational tasks or projects for the
internship duration. Following are few objectives of SIP:

• To provide students possible opportunities to learn, understand and sharpen the real time managerial
skills required at the job.
• To expose students to the current developments relevant to the subject area of training.
• To enable students to use the experience gained from the SIP in discussions held in the classrooms.
• To enhance skills of students in writing project reports.
• To expose students to the professional responsibilities and ethics.

Note: 1. Any case of late submission / compliance after the Last date of acceptance shall be awarded ZERO

2. Evaluation Components -1 to 5 shall be considered as Concurrent Evaluation, 6 & 7 as Term End Evaluation.

General Guidelines:

1. Encouragement to inter-disciplinary / cross-functional activities during internship – The internship


work of the student need not be confined to a particular niche or narrow domain, but can have shades
of other domains / disciplines too.
2. The SIP should be based on completing a task assigned to the student.
3. The Faculty guide can plan a visit to the SIP Company / telephonic conversation with the company
guide. The date of visit or phone call shall be informed to the company guide and student in advance.
4. Mid-term Review report from the students shall be ensured after 45 days of SIP commencement. The
faculty guide may initiate any necessary corrective or preventive action, based on the same.
5. Project Proposal Mid-term report shall be considered valid if their scanned copies are received by
email or hard copy by the faculty guide as per timelines. In case of email report it is recommended to
mark a copy to mentor from Industry. In case of hard copy report signature of Industry mentor is a
must.
6. Ideally, SIP report draft should be ready with the student before he/she resumes the term after
internship. The students shall seek guidance from their respective Internship faculty guides during the
SIP Tenure and refine & finalize report file for Final evaluation by last week of July.
7. Number of Copies: Soft copy (PDF)to be submitted (by 28 th July), to the respective internal guide of
the institute. Only on acceptance of draft project report accepted and approved by the Internal Guide,
the student should proceed to make the final copies duly signed and accepted by the guide.
8. Final Internship Viva-voce Examination (External) shall be organized on suitable dates (First week of
August). The examiner shall be 1internal faculty members and 1 external industry official.
9. Each faculty guide shall identify a few good projects and encourage these students to participate in
project / internship competitions. (Example: Business Standard Internship Competition for ‘Best
Summer Internship Project’ for MBA students).
10. The TPO shall maintain a database of students who receive PPO & suitably address these companies,
based on the final placement policy.

An MBA student should perform his / her Summer Internship Programme based on an ‘On Job Project’.

Features of an Project:

1. The student shall be performing a project which involves a substantial component of doing tasks /
activities which are regularly performed in the project organization.
2. Under the project, the focus of the student shall be on activity or task performance. Student is not
allowed to undertake pure research project.
3. The student shall gain first-hand experience of performing the task / activity by working independently
or assisting an employee.
4. Project shall be typically performed by a student to understand how the activity is performed, what
inputs or resources are required, what supporting infrastructure or technology is needed, how
problems or issues are resolved, how communication is done, how reporting to the superior is done
etc.
5. Examples: Participating in tax return filing activity, doing on field sales, doing sales presentations for
clients, taking part in quality inspections, participating in employee recruitment and selection process,
performing performance appraisals etc.
6. For Report writing purpose, the student shall follow the Chapter scheme for On Job Project (as per the
Annexure).

Instructions for SIP Report


Report (soft copy to be submitted on 28 th July 2022) Hard copy report to be submitted before
20th August 2022.

a) Format of the SIP Project Report: The students must adhere strictly to the format
for the submission of the project report.
b) Paper: The Report shall be typed on white executive bond paper, A-4 size for the
final submission. The Report to be submitted to the University must be original
(along with all original certificates) and subsequent copies may be photocopies on
any paper.
c) Typing: The typing shall be of Times New Roman, font size 12, and on both side of
the paper only, using black color only. (Spacing: to be maintained at 1.5 between
two lines), and the titles to be maintained at Times New Roman, font size 14.
d) Margins: The top & bottom margins must be 1" and left margin for right side page
and right margin for left side page should be 1.5"
e) Binding: Resin bound in Black with Golden Embossing.
f) Front cover: The front cover should be as per the format given.
g) Color Graphs / Charts / Tables can be used – provided they display the values and units
clearly.

DO’S & DON’TS FOR STUDENT:

Do’s
1. Report on the first day of Internship to the venue as communicated by the host organization.
2. Be punctual
3. Always wear formal attire
4. Adhere to the timelines of Evaluation components submission / compliance
5. Stay in contact with Internship Internal Guide throughout the Internship duration

6. Exhibit pro-activeness & develop learning attitude (Remember Internship is the best
opportunity to observe & get experience of how industry functions)
7. Be polite with Internship External guide and other employees of the host organization.
8. Contact Internship Internal Guide, in case of any issues at the host organization / with
Internship External Guide.
9. Be sincere in your approach towards Internship.
Don’ts

1. Exhibit over-smartness or ‘I know everything’ attitude.


2. Prepare fake documentation or show some work as your Internship which you have not done.
3. Insist on getting reimbursements for travelling/ conveyance / food etc.
4. Use host organization’s resources like stationery or facilities like transport, canteen etc. unless
permitted by the competent authority from the host organization.
5. Copy reports from earlier batches.

INTERNSHIP / PROJECT PROPOSAL

Project Proposal, in MS word / pdf format, shall be submitted within 15 days of joining the Internship
Organization.

The Project Proposal must necessarily incorporate the following information:


 Project Topic (Detailed report about the proposed work for 3 months)
 Objective of and Study Plan for the Project- brief report on the work to be done.
 Name of the Organization
 Name of the Executive Guide with Telephone No. and Email ID
 Department in which the project is undertaken with address, telephone no. & fax no.
