Lesson Idea
☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.
☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
paper first then once it was checked over, I would then break up my story into parts
for fit better in the PowerPoint. I would also talk about how I carefully picked the
pictures for the background of my story, so it fits well. I will make sure my students are
aware of their goals by doing check ins to keep up with how they are doing and
reminding them what the goals are. They will use the technology to create an online
version of their short narrative that they can view and read to the class. The teacher
will try to step in a little as possible so that the students can explore the program
themselves and see what works for them. The feedback with be provided by a rubric
that gives explanations on what did and didn’t work and ways they could better their
e-book. I will then conclude the lesson by talking about how we can take the narrative
we wrote and make it digitalized.
Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts?
The way I will use PowerPoint to actively get my students involved in authentic tasks and
contexts would be using exploration activities and time-on-task with continued focus on the
learning goal. With using explorations activities, it gives the students time to look through the
given program and have time to explore the software to get used to it. Time-on-task is
another great way that I feel could get the students used to the program. With this it gives
the students a break about their current task and are given a moment to check in on where
they are and if they are following the current goals
Choosing PowerPoint, it helps to introduce the class to the concept that they will be learning.
It gives them an opportunity to engage in this. Using technology like PowerPoint can engage
both auditory and visual learners. The PowerPoint would also allow the use of graphics,
linking to videos, and bullet pointing information. Defining engagement in UDL means that
the students always know the goal of the lesson and the standards that they will reach by the
end of the lesson.
